The King of Scotland became King of England and the two countries united. Today Scotland has its own parliament, passes its own laws.
The current UK Prime Minister was born in and educated in Scotland, the Chanceller of the Exchequer (and next PM) is a Scottish MP.
England has no parliament. It is the UK parliament with a Scots PM and Scots MPs that make its laws.
England subsidies Scotland by the equivalent of £1000 per person, and yet Scots still succeed in the propaganda that they are a conquered nation.
Unbelievable

It sold itself out.The first answer is inaccurate since the greedy James VI became James I of England in the early 17th century,1606 or thereabouts. His formation of a united kingdom inevitably brought about a united parliament, which came together in 1707.The Scots were never conquered, but, not unlike today, they were politically apathetic and allowed themselves to be dictated to by a foreign power, even after having negotiating themselves into a position of freedom of choice. As an aside to your question, the reason for Scotland's dependence on the U.K. today is entirely the fault of the Scots populace, they have never been colonized, have always had the vote, but still complain about being part of the U.K..

The Kingdom of Scotland was an independent state until 1 May 1707, when the Acts of Union resulted in a political union with the Kingdom of England to create the Kingdom of Great Britain.

I don't know a ton of UK history but I believe at one point Scotland was under the forced rule of England but at some point they gained their independance and joined the UK as equals to England. This is something that Ireland never really succeeded in doing and why the relationship between Ireland and England aren't very good even to this day. I found and article on Scotland's independance. I haven't read it all but I hope it is helpful. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wars_of_Scottish_Independence

Well, Scotland and England agreed to form a political union and become the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707. Later more countries were added, as the result of various treaties and such, and the UK was formed.

Best Answer; is VERY FAR from the truth.
"Scotland is subsidised by the UK."
I'm really not surprised they're are no sources there. I know this 8 years old, but even 8 years ago we weren't being subsidised.
The Centre For Economic And business research proved this, and found that Scotland is in no way subsidised by the UK.
The financial times also said this:
- Economic output (GDP) per head – 19th in the world in 2012, compared to 23rd for the UK
- Economic output (GDP) total – at 46th, in the top quarter of countries, even though we sit right in the middle in terms of population size
- Trade – total exports worth £98 billion, ranking us 34th in the world
- Public Finances – Scotland’s national accounts £1,389 per person healthier than the UK’s
- Tax revenues – Scotland generates £12,629 of tax revenue per person compared to £11,381 for the UK
Scotland's Oil has also contributed over £300bn to the UK treasury, which Scotland has not seen any of.
Under Independence Scotland would also become 8th richest country in the world by GDP per capita; which is considerably higher than the UK is.
Also, please remember we make up 9.9% of of the UK tax revenues but have only 8.4% of the population! And that's not even including Oil revenues.
What propaganda have you been reading exactly?
