I'm going to be driving through the Michigan / Ontario border. I want to know if a laptop can be confiscated? Also, what about bringing an external hard drive?? I don't want them either damaged or lost.

I am flying from Toronto to Edmonton for about 5 days with Air Canada. Should I buy travel insurance - medical and/or cancellation insurance? I am 20 years old, and I am wondering if it is necessary if I am staying in Canada. I have never flown before so I was wondering if anyone had any advice. Thanks :)

Is it really necessary to have a birth certificate in addition to photo ID while crossing the border?

The reason being that my boyfriend and his father are coming to visit, from Ohio (US) to Ontario (Canada), and in order to cross the border I've read on various websites that all of the passengers require a birth certificate and a drivers license. My boyfriend does not currently have his birth certificate with him as he regularly resides in Kansas. (His parents are no longer together). So his birth certificate is unaccessible.

So!! To make a long question short: can he still make it through without a birth certificate? Will just his drivers license suffice?

He's getting pretty anxious, and although I personally think he'll get through just fine - I think some alternative opinions will help ease his worries.

Thanks!

Upon going over the US border from Canada, I am aware that you need government issued photo ID, and your birth certificate. But is a visitor's Visas required too? Or are the two ID's enough to gain you entry into the United States?

Just so I am not misunderstanding, the Visas are to allow you to stay & and work within the US for a certain period of time. What if you just plan to visit there for a month, does that still require a visas when traveling there by car?
