Taiwan

I am NOT interested in big ticket or bulky consumer goods like TV, DVD Recorder, high-end HiFi etc, but I'm looking something unsual and uncommon like Two-Way Radio, transmitter, electronic thermometer, battery chargers, LED torches, computer parts, and electronic components etc. Some second hand goods would be nice too.

If you know a district called Sham Shui Po in Hong Kong, you know exactly that I mean!

I am travelling to Taiwan soon, and I will need to use the internet about as much as I need a cel phone. I am worried about wifi compatability issues there with American laptops as well as international roaming charges with cel phones, and would like advice about what is easiest and most affordable to travel with and without. Is it the good time to travel there during the Lunar Chinese New Year? I will travel from Taipei to southern city Eg: (Hualian, Tainan, Kenting, Taizhong, Gaoxiong and etc..)
