Good answer. Near NTU (National Taiwan University) certainly
has a lot of music places. As a rule of thumb, places near where students congregate has good stores sell music at cheap prices.

Three other places:
1. Accessible by MRT (subway in Taipei) is Ximen Station
Exit 6 off at XiMenDin - as a popular youth hangout - there's
Tower Records like in the States sells high quality CD.
And Eslite 116 may have them also.

Again in MRT ZhongXiao Fuxing Station Exit 14 Dinghao Plaza
another Tower Record.

2. Rose Records near MRT Taipei Main Station Exit 6
walk toward Xuchang Rd approximately across from
YMCA usually has combo sales in which the buyer combines
one red-labeled and one green-labeled music to get a bargain
price. This location is also at a popular student hangout -cram
school district.

The reason for these places is they all have quality CD, the price
is fixed but one can be sure of authenticity.

Hope this helps.

Actually, there are many stores that sell Chinese music in almost any mall in Taipei, but I would recommend the area around NTU campus, near the Gong Guan MRT station. There are so many independent merchants in that area that carry Mandarin and Taiwanese music I think you could spend an entire week looking through all of their shelves. The travel guide to Taiwan at the link below is one that I think is a great guide for areas to shop in Taipei. Good luck!

For heaven's sake!! The place is crawling with them. Just walk around and you'll find one within 2 blocks. I bought a couple hundred CDs like that. If you really can't find any, try grocery stores.
