Assuming you're a native English speaker, it's easy to find work teaching in Taiwan. In fact, most foreigners you meet here are teachers; very few are tourists.

Different kinds of people go to Taiwan to work, study and just live.
Foreign engineers building new high speed train there are from Japan, Germany and France. Others (Caucasian native English speakers) teach English. Yet, high number of Tibetan settlers there too. Even a Turkish man is there and still there selling Turkish ice cream.

So, a lot people are interested in staying there. Why not vacation there first and see how you like it? Then decide if you want to stay.

You can go as a tourist, and with a 3 month visa once extendable for a total of 6 months. You can also get a student visa, studying Chinese. You apply to school first, and receive an invitation with which you get the visa. Your third option is to work for some company which has a contract in Taiwan. The last option is to marry a Taiwanese. I worked there for 6 years, and would love to stay there retired, but it ain't going to happen.

Sure, there are many foreigners in Taiwan. I have been here for over 6 years and have also lived in Japan. It's great! If you have a university degree you can teach English here, other than that, you can study Chinese. Good luck

of course it's possible.. i know a lot of caucasians are staying & working there without visa or permit! But you need to know that you can't get a proper job! Anyway, i think its very hard to get a job there now & that's the reason why i came back to Singapore! I have friends from Canada still looking for jobs since 2005..
wish you all the best!
