Dun hua bei Rd in gerneral is not cheap. As a matter of fact, some of the most expensive hotels are on that street. You will have to go to some of the smaller streets to find cheaper hotels. There are many nice hotels that are "love motels" but are clean and nice. Although people usually rent them for around 2 hours, you can rent them for overnight. There are also a hotels that are a step higher called the business hotels where services are limited (no swimming pool, no restaurants, etc.) but are very clean and fairly high end. I stayed in one in the alley way of Da An Rd and Chung Hsaio E rd, sec 4. Brother's Hotel is an older establishment but the rooms are economical but the rooms are small. Brother's Hotel has a pool and excellent restaurants on the first and 2nd floor and is walk-able to Dun hua N. Rd. That maybe a good bet for you. Good luck.

Tun Hwa Bei Lu is an expensive area. Depending on how long you intend to stay, Hostels, or if you speak Chinese, one of the smaller hotels scattered through the city.

Last time there this past Dec. I stayed in the KDM hotel. (2 bus stops around the corner, subway across the street, and and the Evergreen airport bus drops you off across the street. The price through Internet was $60/day. BTW, one block away is the main Kwang Hwa computer and electronics market. Oh... and hop on the subway and go to Taipei 101, the tallest building in the world. Also, at the hotel, pick up a free copy of "This Month in Taiwan" magazine for lots of info.....
