If you’ve learned to speak fluent English, you must be a genius!
Those of you who have English as a second language and have mastered it, congratulations, those of you who are still struggling, perhaps the reason is below.
Some reasons why the English language is so hard to learn:

- The bandage was wound around the wound.
- The farm was used to produce produce.
- The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
- We must polish the Polish furniture.
- He could lead if he would get the lead out.
- The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
- Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
- A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
- When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
- I did not object to the object.
- The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
- There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
- They were too close to the door to close it.
- The buck does funny things when the does are present.
- A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
- To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
- The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
- After a number of injections my jaw got number.
- Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
- I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
- How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Those of you who have English as a second language and have mastered it, congratulations, those of you who are still struggling, perhaps the reason is below.
Some reasons why the English language is so hard to learn:

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England nor French fries in France (surprise!).
Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat. Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
And why is it that writers write, but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham?
If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth beeth? One goose two geese, so one moose, two meese? Doesn’t it seem crazy, that you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? Is it an odd, or an end?

If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship?

Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

Why do we drive in parkways, and park in drive ways?
If quizzes are quizzical, then what are tests?

P.S. English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

"Feeling better? Hopefully yes, or perhaps not yet. I say yet, because I honestly believe we all have been given the capabilities to have brighter outlook. These eyes that squint in anger are the same ones that can spot beauty in everything, the same ears that hear bad news are the same ones which hear the perfect song playing on the radio, and the mouths that roar out curses and expletives are the same ones which can emanate a message of peace and love. We are all vessels, it's what we decide to bring as cargo that makes all the difference if we are to sink or stay afloat in life. Bon voyage!"

To make light of every situation is done with practice and of course acceptance. Surrender to the fact that there are situations in life that are just not in your control... in fact there will be many, and if you allow them to affect you, then you're in for a lifelong pounding. The only thing that you can really control is your own REACTION to what is in front of you. How much are you going to take before you break? Or are you simply just going to look this horrid, irritating situation in the face, and chuckle politely to yourself before stepping aside and moving on? Have you ever heard the expression "mabigat kasama" and no, that doesn't translate as "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" but it means that Mr. Mabigat is this close to being an emotional vampire. Trouble is, you might look in the mirror one day and see no reflection...so lighten up.

Thanks hon.

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

I’d been away for 4 days. When I got back and logged on to YAP, I was hoping to type away with my answers. After answering one of Vandal’s questions, I moved on to other Q’s; but, can’t seem to answer any, and after reading Aref’s Q, my nose started to bleed. Am I brain dead? Did I lose my brains when I blew my nose?

Wilhelm Steinitz (1836-1900) can be ranked among the world champions in Chess.

It was said (unconfirmed) that he offered God the odds of "a pawn and move".

To those who don't know chess, it means to play minus one pawn and to play Black.

He died a pauper and insane.

Has God shown him kindness? After all, if he had a mental breakdown, then God gave him exactly what he wanted, eternal beauty in positional play, close quarters eternal combat, etc.

Or, had God made him an example of his terrible wrath?

Beer makes you warm inside much like love, then when you had too much to drink, you fall hard. Same thing goes with love, but when you have too much love and get hurt, it takes forever to recover. While with beer? Just a sleep and it's over.
