Wilhelm Steinitz (1836-1900) can be ranked among the world champions in Chess.

It was said (unconfirmed) that he offered God the odds of "a pawn and move".

To those who don't know chess, it means to play minus one pawn and to play Black.

He died a pauper and insane.

Has God shown him kindness? After all, if he had a mental breakdown, then God gave him exactly what he wanted, eternal beauty in positional play, close quarters eternal combat, etc.

Or, had God made him an example of his terrible wrath?

God: check!
Steinitz: draw?
God: all right my child.

God is so compassionate that even though His odds are greater than ours, He still wants us to be winners.

might be..i'm sure you have received hundreds of that email on people who "challenged" God. John Lennon, the makers of the Titanic, the girl who said God can travel with her friends in the boot, etc...

maybe some people don't believe in God but I always believed there is one Supreme Being up there on the lookout =)

God has nothing to do with his condition before his death. It was the work of Satan, the devil. God is love.
