Thai friend trying to get a tourist visa. I am sponsoring her. She was rejected once before when she asked for 90 days (the longest allowable). Would she have a better chance the second time if she asked for a shorter stay?

My friend (Japanese) said she did not want a tatami room when her and her husband built their house....She said many Japanese are starting to feel this way because its very expensive to replace and alot of people don't want to deal with it so they just have hardwood or whatever.

Do you think it's true? And I've noticed in some Japanese homes, things seem more "western", like the furniture and such.

Do you think tatami rooms in homes are going out of style and practicality? Do you have tatami in your home?

I may be traveling to Osaka and Tokyo soon, but I will be going by myself, so there's no one to split hotel costs with. Do you have any recommendations for good, cheap places to stay in these areas? Thanks!

Legitimate answers only, please.

Well, it's not really stiff shoulders, but muscle knotting at the base of the neck, or something. It's not what Westerners might think of as muscle fatigue, I don't think.

Anyway, I've done some research and I cannot get any good answers but it might be stress or depression related. Anyone want to add their expert or amatuer opinion?

If not, does it make you less Japanese?

Sorry I have to delete the last question coz i find it too broad and less controversial :) Good Luck!

Three 3rd year college students of engineering, mathematics and physics were classmates in Math 307. They were standing around the college flagpole when an English professor wandered by. " What are you doing?", he asked.

"We need to know the height of the flagpole," answered one, " and we're discussing the formulas we might use to calculate it."

"Watch!" said the English professor. He pulled the pole from its fitting, laid it on the grass, borrowed a tape measure and said, " Exactly 24 feet." Then he replaced the pole and walked away.

"English professor!" sneered the math student, "We ask him for the height, and he gives us the length."

I know that many of America's foreign policies are justifiably unpopular with people throughout the world. But do people realize that the American you meet traveling abroad most likely doesn't agree with the policies of the Bush administration?

Is it really possible that we've lost all our good will with the rest of the world due to George Bush?

I hope not.

I am currently visiting Japan and am interested in a couple jobs on base and possibly staying here for a while if I can find a decent good paying job.

My question: what is the most efficient means of getting a SOFA stamp to be able to apply for the jobs on base here...?

Does anyone have experience with my situation?

I am visiting my Japanese wife on my passport and have base access as I am now inactive military. One place (MWR) on base told me it would take 4-6 weeks after I turn in the paperwork to be sponsored by them to get a job.

What other possibilities are there or jobs people know of that they need positions filled?

Thank you all so much for your time and thoughts.

do they just pretend that everything here in taiwan is good, or not as bad, in order to feel that they have adapted in taiwan? do you feel the need to accept every aspect of this country, and deny those things that suck, in order to feel better? You are dishonest to yourselves.

Undeniable reality in taiwan: bad air, cockroaches, filthy air, dishonest people, stinky air, beggars, polluted air......

How do you cultural relativists accept this reality? I would like to know.
