I know that many of America's foreign policies are justifiably unpopular with people throughout the world. But do people realize that the American you meet traveling abroad most likely doesn't agree with the policies of the Bush administration?

Is it really possible that we've lost all our good will with the rest of the world due to George Bush?

I hope not.

I couldn't agree with you more! I hope that more foreign people realize that the majority of the U.S citizens don't completly agree with Bush. Most of us are just as pissed at him as they are.
Some of the people from European countries that I've met seem to think that all Americans are uneducated and have no clue as to what is going on outside the states. We're not all narrow minded pigs. Please don't judge an entire country based on your opinion of Bush. You can imagine most of us are really quite embarassed by the stupid things he says and does.

As far as I'm concern, George Bush can lie to the American public and get away with it. It goes to show what kind of person George is and type of people the Americans are. Anyway, with regards to goodwill, the answer is yes; America has lost quite a big chunk of those.

As far as American traveling overseas, I don't see any problem with that because those who actually travel out of America have a better understanding of what is going on in other parts of the world and most of the time their opinions would be different from George Bush.

i agree with scruffycat. We were hated before Bush, he's just the current reason. I've traveled, and a lot of people see our lush resources being flushed down the toilet and can't imagine how we can be so destructive and spoiled. While they could very well be jealous, they don't agree with our ways, just as we don't agree with other countries ways.

Some cultures rape their women and it's just apart of their society. Some marry their children at 8. We cut trees to build skyscrapers. Are any of us right or wrong? No. it's all a matter of opinion.

I went to Honduras and we had to be guarded with guns. 16 year olds walked with us everywhere to protect us (this was about 6 years ago when they were having problems). it was scary to be hated that much, but it doesn't really have to do with the president, more with the way we present ourselves. We're America, hear us roar.

other countries have names for us just as we have derogatory names for people of other countries. It's a crazy circle we're in, isn't it?

well this is a Travel section don't u think? well in all my travels around the world the problem is not the American policy nobody cares (Bush) included in USA nobody cares what happ in Iraq and nobody cares or agree with Bush because he is the president of USA that is the reason he is the president don't u think? ..well if we are talking about the American who travel abroad ...well the problem is the quality of American travel abroad..most of them are backpackers ..the quantity of American backpackers are huge and for sure this kind of tourist are so unpopular around the world. What do u prefer a 10 American backpackers who sleep in the floor, spend one dollar food or one Europe or Latin tourist who pay 500 baths for taxi river and left good tips around? that is the problem.

another problem is that the Americans don't travel abroad, well last time i went to Hawaii and well all the Americans show their American passport at the airport !!! hehehehe they believed that Puerto Rico is a country and Hawaii is another world hehehe.

But well the reality is that nobody care about what America do or doing is simple.

I've worked with a lot of people from other countries and traveled a bit.

It's a love/hate sort of thing. But it has been tipping much more towards hate since George started strutting his stuff. They used to at least respect our ideals and trust us. But now we are a nation that lies to the UN to justify a brutal war and kidnaps people (sometimes innocent) of the streets, flies them to foreign countries so we can torture them in secret. That's a big step down from what they used to think about us.

I'm not sure if People really hate America, but it's more likely the don't like those arrogant Americans going in their country and not respecting their culture, I have traveled a lot and did not have any problems with other people hating me, and I did not have to conform to their culture, I just have to understand and respect it.

G.W. Bush is just making that image bad. (VERY BAD PERSON)

The people I know in Thailand are angry at Bush and his foriegn policy. They worry that after Iraq they could be next (not actually next but meaning it could happen here again because they weren't happy how laos got treated by the US).
But they like people from the US usually better than German or Japanese. Or at least thats what they say to me.

As a non-American living in the Great White North (i.e., Canada), I personally judge people on their own merits. I have to say, however, that watching the United States in action is terrifying. A country that has always held itself up as the democratic ideal is now turning into a fascist state that invades countries with no justification, kidnaps and tortures people (including its own citizens), and acts like a law unto itself. Now I know what France, Austria, Poland, and Czechoslovakia felt like when Hitler was coming to power.

Even if most NOW disagree with Bush, a majority (arguably) voted for the guy twice. That's just stupidity.
