Am due to be passing through Tangiers, a city which i do actually like (am i in a minority?) in December. Would prefer to stay in the ville nouvelle this time rather than the medina. Where did you stay when you were there and would you recommend it? Low budget but not too dodgy.

Back when the country was run by the National Party, and there were working roads, working hospitals, law and order, a semblance of 1st world norms, a viable economy, a formidable military and people weren't dropping dead of AIDS in record numbers, there was the constant outcry over apartheid, resulting in the sanctions, the demonizing of the only working country in Africa and the constant whining about freeing Mandela.

So, the communist/terrorist Mandela is freed and the criminals of the ANC take over.
Twelve years later, under their misrule and blatant corruption, a once beautiful country is being reduced to rubble, the so-called leaders of SA rely on witchdoctors to cure AIDS and spend taxpayer money hand over fist.

Guess what? Not a peep out of the rest of the world. Mandela is deified as a saint (please), and South Africa is considered 'liberated'. And if anyone dares see things as they are, they are condemned as a 'racist' or 'apartheid lover'.

What hypocrisy.

Gotcha!! This is NOT going to be a negative one- sorry for YOU!
Given another question on this morning, I'd like us to do some mind-bending for all those who do not know our brand of sunshine.. What are the best things for you, about South Africa? Mine are: sunsets second to none, beaches that "Skrik vir niks" (no par, darling!), warm, friendly people, issues of violence that are ACTUALLY being exposed, (flip side, ne, boet?) and of course - boerewors, biltong & Mrs. Balls Chutney. I love the mix of curries in Mayfair, Gucci in Sandton, and the fact there are so many people we can make a difference to here that we don't have to spend our lives wondering How we can Make A Difference!... lol

I need mortality stats (# of deaths at different ages) for South Africa over a long peroid (ie: 1900-present day). I checked out StatsSA, but can only seem to find data from 1997 onwards.

Can anyone help?

I am considering relocationg from the US to the UAE in the Middle East. Has anyone ever lived there before and if so let me know your thoughts. I have done a great deal of research and found a lot of info but I'm wondering what others thought of the country. A main question is do you consider it safe even though the US is at war in the middle east right now?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I want a rough idea of the impression SA makes on the international community, be it negitave or positive, fire away your thoughts. I dunno much about golf and any other games, but I love rugby and cricket. Was the win over the Australian cricket squad, where more than 800 runs were scored the greatest game ever? Or was the Rugby World Cup Final in 1995 better? Or is there any other local game that fit the profile of being "the greatest game ever played"? I love the Derby between my high school and their rivals. And with their history, some of those games could be considered "the greatest game ever played". Be ceative, you beautiful people of the Rainbow Nation, and tell me why you think your choice is so special!

I'm flying to Cape town in November for 2 weeks. I'll have time to drive around, but probably not going to travel more than 150mile in any direction. I've heard good things about the coastal route across to Hermanus. Is this good? What much I NOT miss in and around Cape Town?

I am flying to South Africa in a few weeks time - 11hours flight. Is there a sleeping tablet I can take that would not make me feel grotty the next morning? I am on prozac, don't know if that matters?
