I am considering relocationg from the US to the UAE in the Middle East. Has anyone ever lived there before and if so let me know your thoughts. I have done a great deal of research and found a lot of info but I'm wondering what others thought of the country. A main question is do you consider it safe even though the US is at war in the middle east right now?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Its a nice place to live, and the safest country in the Middle east. There is no war there. There are already a lot of europeans and americans who are living there and working there with their families.

Yes I have been there and I am planning on moving there soon to join my husband who is already there. Dubai and the UAE is a wonderful place. The people are friendly and it is very safe. There is not as much of the extremist attitude that is in some of the other countries and it is reported to be very safe. There were a few demonstrations over Israels invasion of Lebanon but I don't think there were any incidents of violence. You can go to the U.S. Embassy's web site and read the Wardens messages and this will give you an indication of the threat level to U.S. citizens.
The only problem there is the cost. Have you looked at the cost of rental apartments? They are outrageous! I would suggest that you check out the Gulf News to look for the area that you want to live in so you can get a deal hopefully.

Forget abt the damn f***kin war...

Emiratis a dour Americas, besides... people of the UAE are very care free, Westernized, & very now...
It’s only the Saudis that r against the Americans, as they don’t like the US polices, (As the US polices suck 4 real)...

But as a person forget abt anything on War...
Don’t bring that Anti-Arab feeling because than no one will like u anyways, (doesn’t matter what race)

Be cool & chill... just like in the U.S.
& don’t ever talk abt Bush... because as you know everyone hates BUSH... well be friendly & open...
Make sure u don’t interact w/ the traditional local womens, as they will not like the American style...

But if u see a local woman, (Modern ones, Shirts & hot tops) than you can chill n' have a chat & the usual stuff...
Besides you will find plenty of American & European + Asian chics to hang out with…

Let me tell you, one thing: Americans in UAE are respected 5 times more than any of the countries' citizens... not because u have the dollars but because, they think every American is cool.

& the last when u arrive @ the airport, get a map to the city Ur in & The Explorer: Residents' Guide to Dubai or Abu Dhabi :)

Have fun!

They have great education systems, shopping centers, minimul taxes and are extremely safe in terms of seciurty. I lived there for 7 years before leaving. It was a blast. It is probably the best place for westerners to live in the middle east. Plus the beach is at most an hour away and they have the first indoor ski resort for those who are cold weather based.

I live in the U.A.E, and don't fret, there is no war going on here, relax. if you consider moving here, check the sights out first, see if your comfortable here. Dubai is the advanced city, while Abu Dhabi is a small city, but very homey.
Its a bit hot (a bit?) in this country, but in the winter, you might only need a light jacket (and no, there is so chance of snow).
Its a wonderful country here, my uncle lives in the U.S, and he says the NY is just like Dubai, Sk. Zayed Road...
everything else is pretty cool. And about the snow, we have a place called 'Ski Dubai' in the Mall of the Emirates, wonderful place and you wouldn't miss snow.

I live in Dubai now, it is great here, mostly foreigners, we hardly speak any Arabic here.
It is a free country, women can wear what they want
Great night life and lots of places to go, nice shopping, and nice beaches
Expensive place to be....so I hope you have a good offer
No need to worry about safety here, it is very safe for Americans and all other nationalities
Good luck
