Back when the country was run by the National Party, and there were working roads, working hospitals, law and order, a semblance of 1st world norms, a viable economy, a formidable military and people weren't dropping dead of AIDS in record numbers, there was the constant outcry over apartheid, resulting in the sanctions, the demonizing of the only working country in Africa and the constant whining about freeing Mandela.
So, the communist/terrorist Mandela is freed and the criminals of the ANC take over.
Twelve years later, under their misrule and blatant corruption, a once beautiful country is being reduced to rubble, the so-called leaders of SA rely on witchdoctors to cure AIDS and spend taxpayer money hand over fist.
Guess what? Not a peep out of the rest of the world. Mandela is deified as a saint (please), and South Africa is considered 'liberated'. And if anyone dares see things as they are, they are condemned as a 'racist' or 'apartheid lover'.
What hypocrisy.

robsnor - the English equivalent would be something along the lines of 'What the heart desires, the mouth runs over about.'
No. that's not me. I don't desire to live in South Africa again.
I'm basically a fairly dispassionate observer, that is taken aback at the current situation in the country I was born in.

Joyce F - you back for more, baby? Let's get it on.
You take the UN seriously? What a shocker. The same UN that let hundreds of thousands die in Rwanda. That does nothing as Mugabe rapes Zimbabwe. That has China, Cuba and Saudi Arabia on its Human Rights Commission

The same UN that indulges your corrupt so-called government as human predators prey unchecked on its citizens, and those citizens die of AIDS in their millions.
And you know what the kicker to all this is? South Africa is on the Human Rights Commission!
Looks like you can't read, either. The phrase I used was 'fairly dispassionate.'
The adjective is there for a reason.

Dir33 - I direct these questions here because this is a section on South Africa.
No more apartheid? Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
What are the BEE and Affirmative Action doctrines if not a black version of apartheid?
But you have unwittingly answered the question:
The reason that no one is interested
in South Africa now, is because the perpetrators of the discrimination and thuggery now have black faces and African names.
You see, in today's politically correct world, people only sit up and pay attention if the antagonists have white skins and European names.

Diesel - long time, no see. I see you're still living in dreamland over in the UK. Why are you still there, if you're so proud of South Africa?
Many countries have alerts out to their citizens about the dangers of travelling to South Africa, and companies are pulling out of South Africa as fast as they can. Take a look at the ghost town that used to be Johannesburg's Central Business District and tell me I'm wrong. It also looks less and less like The World Cup will happen there.
That's how eager people are to interact with what used to be South Africa.
No crisis in South Africa anymore? Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha. I guess the murder, rape, carjacking and AIDs don't count, as long as there's no apartheid anymore.
Best that you don't reply to this - you'll just look more foolish than you do now.

Anria - it's not a Communist 'theory'. The economic state of what used to be South Africa has all the earmarks of classic Communism - much as they are in Cuba, China or North Korea. With an added twist - monstrous everyday crime ( due to an imbecilic government, some of whom even received training in the former Soviet Union ) and a modern day plague, mowing down your citizens in the millions.
From the way social conditions have deterioated - squatter camps,a deserted Central Business District - to the way government is becoming more of an omnipotent entity - Affirmative Action, BEE, the theft of land from white farmers, government control of the internet, all this is classic Communism.
Even the way the thieves, rapists, murderers, embezzlers, child killers and terrorists who are running the country, are stealing taxpayer money hand over fist, reeks of the corruption attached to Communism.

Interesting that we've drifted away from the substance of this question.
When the Nats were running what used to be South Africa, there was the constant worldwide outcry over apartheid, but now that the ANC is running the country into the ground, and fast, no one says a damn thing.

Hallo daar.
Interesting facts you're pointing out. And yes, if we look at the truth, the world is loosing interest in us. (Sadly)!!!
But what did you expect? All you read about South Africa is corruption, murder on tourist, all the bad things that is taking place in SA. When last did you hear something positive.
Changing all the cities names, for example: Johannesburg International Airport, is changed to O.R. Thambo (Who is he anyway???). Pretoria, now Tshwane (the worst part of it all, not even the black people are sure if Tshwane was a leader in their culture, some never even heard of him).
Now I know you must wonder what this have to do with your question, well here goes: If the South African people doesn't know where all this places are (with the new names), how will the people abroad know where they're going...
Many people didn't even know Johannesburg, what to say about O.R. Thambo. Tourism is playing a huge fact in the interest of other countries in South Africa. This is rediculous!!!
And as you said, the taxpayer is paying for all this bullshiit.
We are ruled by a bunch of monkeys, so why would you want to visit a country zoo if you've got a zoo in your own country????????
And let's face it, apartheid is actually worse than in the apartheids-era. Think about it people, apartheid has just changed from white to black... (I know not all of us, but open your eyes and see, blacks hate whites, and white hates black!!!!) Sometimes it feels like I'm standing outside, watching South Africa turning into a huge murder and crime scene!!! Face the facts, just open the newspaper and smell the blood!

Now, with its populist self governing status, South Africa is in the process of settling down to its own functional level of governance and social & economic efficiencies akin to the balance of the other countries on the continent. As such it is becoming just another African country. The former touch stone issues are gone so that it has lost its special status, falling back into the pack of African nations.

Leaving South Africa while I did was once the excellent resolution I ever made for me and my loved ones. My moms and dads and sister nonetheless lives in South Africa and as a consequence handiest, my spouse and I seek advice from usually. Each and whenever we seek advice from we're extra stunned through how so much the nation has degenerated. Power cuts, absolute overlook for security and lives of others, crime and over all, the whole disinterest displayed through Thabo Mbeki and his cronies. Those who accuse South Africans who depart the nation of now not being patriotic sufficient aren't talking from an open viewpoint. Many of those have on no account left South Africa and don't have any suggestion what form of freedom is to be had to humans in different nations. I reside with out worry of being killed or crushed up at the streets at virtually any time of the day or night time. If I name the police, they arrive and manage the obstacle. When I pay my taxes, the cash is used for the betterment of the humans and the nation and to not line corrupt reliable wallet. I can fly wherever with no need to relaxed my baggage like they're fabricated from gold. The freedom is addictive. I will on no account come again to South Africa to reside. I don't see matters replacing within the close long run. It is VERY unlucky on account that it's an totally lovely nation and is the situation of my start, however the South Africa of at present isn't the South Africa that was once dreamed of through thousands of South Africans and the sector while Mr Mandela took over in ninety four. It is a tragic undeniable fact that Mbeki and his friends have performed a pathetic process of dealing with crime and corruption. He is without problems the South African an identical of George W. It will take decades to recover from his loss of imaginative and prescient and loss of willingness to take movement. His complicity with Robert Mugabe indicates simply what form of guy he's and what his ethical make up is composed of. If you'll be able to depart, I could depart. There is extra to lifestyles than locking your self up always and dwelling in a self made jail. You handiest have one lifestyles. I prefer to reside it in which I could make a lifestyles for myself and my loved ones with out demanding approximately in which or while the following crook could leap out and assault.

I think the first answer proves my (this) point...people have a short attention span. Whatever lands on the front page is the news of the day and after it slips down the list it's forgotten. All the while my heart goes out to others still in need of help, but we've got enough problems in the US to deal with...fix your home and then help the neighbors.

No, it's the other way round. It's only now that the world is interested in South Africa. The world was worried about apartheid in South Africa long ago, not that it was interested in SA. The world is just quiet about South Africa now because most of the apartheid perpetrators have fled South Africa (I hope you are not one of them). It's only now that people from around the globe visit South Africa as they've never done before, and you know that. It's only now that the world is planting their businesses in South Africa. Previously they did the opposite, they took their businesses away from South Africa (sanctions). It's only now that the world allows South Africa to host the world events. The world is only interested in countries where there are crisis situations, like North Korea presently, Niger, Iraq, and recently Lebanon and Israel. The world was interested in South Africa because there was crisis of Apartheid. Maybe what you meant to say is the world is not interested in South Africa anymore because there is no apartheid crisis anymore. Would you like to rephrase your question?
Whatever you write after reading my answer, I'm not going to answer you back.

The world not interested in South Africa anymore...? Are we living in the same world? The country was virtually unanimously elected to serve as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for two years. It confirmed and underlined the confidence the world has in democratic South Africa.
