I dunno much about golf and any other games, but I love rugby and cricket. Was the win over the Australian cricket squad, where more than 800 runs were scored the greatest game ever? Or was the Rugby World Cup Final in 1995 better? Or is there any other local game that fit the profile of being "the greatest game ever played"? I love the Derby between my high school and their rivals. And with their history, some of those games could be considered "the greatest game ever played". Be ceative, you beautiful people of the Rainbow Nation, and tell me why you think your choice is so special!

To cork: I don't limit myself in any way. Don't need to do that. I have a very clear opinion of what I like. I'm simply looking for any other games I haven't heard of or seen that may have been as exciting or even more exciting. I enjoy all kinds of sports and games... hence my question. What the f*ck are you even talking about? Also, I would love for the South Africans here to give their opinion on the two games I specified. Get it? Dumbass?

Rugby World Cup 1995 Final saw the birth of a new nation under one flag our greatest achievement by far, that's my personal feeling.

Hey Porgie, I gotta go with the 438 game, the rugby 1995 final was awesome, but there will always be rugby finals like that. What made the cricket so incredible was the sheer IMPOSSIBILITY of the task that faced them. I suppose the odds of us winning would have been like a soccer team coming back from 15 - 0 and emerging victorious! Hehe I read that an Aussie went to the bookies during the break and bet $20 000 on Australia! Haha! He only stood to make $200 profit if they won! Ja I think its really unlikely that we'll see another game like that in our lifetimes! But the curry cup final this year was probably the best game I ever watched, even though my team wasn't in it I was glued to my set!

Great question.

I think the greatest game has to be the cricket victory against the Aussies, the current number one team. It was incredible!
Not only for the massive amount of runs scored, but also for the fact that it was against the sheep lovers made it all the more sweeter. Even in India, the news shows were delayed to show that game - that's the impact the game had across the world.

The 1995 RWC final was also of course great. To become the World Champs is a wonderful feeling and to do it on home turf made it all the more special. Who could forget the Small vs Lomu battle, Joost's tackle on Lomu, Chester's tackle on Jeff Wilson and of course the magical drop goal that sealed the deal.

Other games that I think deserve a mention is the 1998 Tri-Nations victory against the All Blacks when we were losing 23-5 with 20 minutes to go and ended up winning. In fact all four of our Tri-Nations games that year were incredible and we won every single game which was an unbelievable achievement.

Another great game was when the Stormers destroyed the Blues in the Super12 in 2003 (I think it was 2003, can't be sure though). They took them to pieces and they were playing in New Zealand which, given our teams usual poor away performances, was great.

There a few individial feats that should be mentioned.
Firstly, Ernst van Dyk is dominating in wheelchair marathons. This man is a machine and just keeps on winning those big city marathons. I don't think he gets the recognition that he deserves.
Also, Oscar Pistorius and Natalie du Toit, have excelled in their events and are amongst the world's best.

Now you have me on a roll....

One of the greatest days in SA sport came at the 2004 Athens Olympics when our boys won the 4*100m relay.
The Aussies and Yanks had great teams but we dominated and set a new world record at the time. I'll never forget the look on the American, Michael Phelps', face when he looked up and saw the SA team with their hands held high! It was fantastic.

Oh, and one of the greatests games yet to be played has to be in the 2007 Rugby WC final where we're bringing the trophy home!

both were brilliant, two days of my life i wont forget!

But for me the " greatest game ever played" must be my hubby's action cricket. their team has never played action cricket or even normal cricket before. so on the first game they played against a provincial team. But a miracle happened our team creamed the provincial side! that is for me the greatest game ever!
