If you're going Hermanus way, then try to get off the main highways, and take the lesser roads around. Not because of traffic, but because you'll see so much more of our beautiful country. Hermanus itself is great, and November should still be good for some whale watching.
If you're really adventurous, then go along to Gaans Bay, and try cage diving with the Great Whites (that's sharks, not old politicians!).
Go to the Cape Tourist board web site & check that out.
Depending on the club scence you like, check out the gig guide on the goodhope fm website.
The natural history museum is good for a few hours, along with the planetarium, art museum & others, all together near the city centre.
Try the open top bus tour when you arrive: It'll give you a better idea of the layout of the city.
If you want shopping, don't pay the prices at Cavendish or the V&A waterfront for presents for the folks back home: go along to the Green Point Market for tribal & local stuff. Clothes here are cheaper than the UK, so wait till you're here for T shirts, shorts & sandles etc from shops like Edgars, Mr Price or Woolworths (you'll find these shops in any decent Mall).
Don't buy anything from Duty free before you arrive here: you'll find the wines, fags, sweets, sunglasses & even ipod nanos (99 pounds in the UK, 1500 rand here & no duty to pay) are cheaper here in the shops.
Have a stunning trip, enjoy our country, and take good memories home with you.

Go to Boulders beach were the penguins are, just below Simons town and go on the same day all the way down to see Cape of good hope. Simon's town is a nice place to have a coffee on your way down, Go back through the other site, so you enter Cape town through Houtbay. There are some nice views.
And of course don't miss on a clear day to Table mountain, the moment there is fog they will close the mountain. You can walk around on the top, there is also a restaurant. Don't forget walking shoes and warm clothes.
Stellenbosch is a nice place to visit, they have one street with old fashioned shops and the area around it is the wine / fruit area.
(I've worked as a Tour leader for a few years in Southern Africa)

I recommend Cape Point, Table Mountain, and Robbin ISland. Those were the highlights of my trip there. You may also want to visit a game park if you have time; if not driving tazke a tour.
