I have way too many knives. Kitchen, fishing, hunting, fillet, etc.. and can't keep them all sharp. Do you own a tried and true gadget for sharpening knives that really works? Does it put an edge on straight blade knives without destroying the knife? It seems like new knives are really hard to sharpen anymore. The name of your miracle gadget would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

Where is the cheapest place to buy bullets? I found them for 6 and some change at Wal-Mart (for 9mm - 50 pack). How about online? I see cabellas.com has them for 84 bucks for 500 which comes to 8 something for a 50 pack. i'll stick to wal-mart. I can't find any other places that sell bullets online. Anybody know?

Thanks in advance!

What is up with this? Will Bush veto it?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071219/ap_on_go_co/congress_guns

"Congress on Wednesday passed a long-stalled bill inspired by the Virginia Tech shootings that would more easily flag prospective gun buyers who have documented mental health problems."

"This bill will make America safer without affecting the rights of a single law-abiding citizen," said the Senate's chief sponsor, New York Democrat Chuck Schumer.

I'm a law-abiding citizen. I'm also bi-polar. It's documented. I've never been "dangerous". How will they sort through who is and who isn't or is going to be a straight ban on everybody with documented issues? This burns my butt! Can I still own the ones I have? Or is this simply going to prevent me from purchasing any guns in the future and not affect my current ownership? How can they do this? How did the NRA let this get passed?

I have seen enough steel not fall after being hit several times to know this is prevalent. I have mixed feelings 1. it is about fun 2. It is no big deal if they are scored minor.

It really ticks me off though to see a 9 knock down steel and then someone shoots a 40 and they can't knock it down. Has anyone seen a club do anything about it? Does anyone think a club should do anything about it?

Ok lets say your driving down a country road when a deer leaps infront of your car, when you hit the deer it does not die but is in alot of pain and is limping off into the woods. You have a firearm in the trunk with some ammo. Would you shoot the deer to put it out of its misery or would you wait for 20 minutes till the cops came and did it. Would the police have a problem with shooting it to put it out of pain or would they fine you. This hasent happend but there have been some close calls for me and i always have wondered what to do if this did happen. Personaly i would shoot it becuse it has the potential of gettign away and suffering from broken bones and starvation.

Do you think that along with proper gun safety and training (handling of gun), that the understanding of the ballistics of weapons in general is another important element?
And that you should insure you know the ballistics and limits of the ammo you use?

As many of us do.

In Los Angeles they are raiding homes and confiscating firearms from persons who purchased them legally and have since then commited a crime. They will use your conviction information to obtain a warrant in order to take your firearms. How many of you support or oppose this action being taken by the authorities?

I feel certain that ANYONE who has ever been shot by a 9mm complained about it because it wasn't a .45 or a 10mm.... , you'd know their are plenty of 9mm rounds with PROVEN ballistics that equal and surpass the 40sw round, and come very close to equalling the .45 acp's energy displacement. Just because you might not like a certain caliber DOES NOT mean it's ineffective, it simply means you don't like the round. In a combat situation, or self defense scenario, your average distance is going to be less than 21 feet(7 yards) a solid torso shot with a "wimpy" 9mm will put you down just as fast as a 40sw,.45acp or 10mm will. The germans developed the 9mm parabellum( means for war) during ww2, the countless dead GI's killed by the 9mm apparently didn't think the 9mm is ineffective.
What do you think?

I am going to purchase a Mosin Nagant. Would it make a good SHTF/Survival gun? Which would be better, a 1891/30 or the M44? I plan on upgrading it e.g. synthetic stock, scout scope, bipod, etc. Please give me some input.

considering custom proj.cheap.cust+cheap=imposs. i know!some designs will only use specific brand/type of barrel due to action design and unusual fit(krux of question)otherwise, I can't see why it wouldn't thread right in.Plus head space etc.leaning more toward 17 HMR Have not purchased rifle yet, just considering option of one of a kind 17 rather than one of a billion off the shelf.Shell casing head size should be the same size as 22 and I believe it would chamber/eject fine.Pehaps undoubtable mag. modifications are going to be required.Richard's micro-fit stock.(ossum price/quality esp. colored laminates)Who knows, I might have started something with these cheap little trainers.

Okay, so I'm finally 21 and going to get my CCW permit soon. I live in sweltering Texas, where it is hot and humid practically year-round. Now, my body type is pretty lanky (6' 145 lbs).

What type of pistol do you think would be the easiest to conceal given my frame? I currently own a Smith & Wesson 3953, but am considering trading it in for something smaller and lighter (possible a Springfield XD Subcompact in 9mm).
