I am going to disagree somewhat with the others. Although a real gun is FAR BETTER. The average robber is a lazy degenerate just looking for some easy cash.... he is not interested in engaging in a full scale shootout with you. He is probably going to run away at the sight of a gun and almost certainly won't stay around when it start making nice pops in his direction.
If someone has a serious personal grudge against you and wants you to die no matter what regardless of risk to their own life or you plan on stopping an armed robbery in progress or a homicidal maniac on a rampage... I would certainly get something real. A blank gun is more than enough to keep the neighborhood punk kids from breaking in and stealing your DVD player though.

For home use I would recomend a 12 Ga pump loaded with #4 buckshot as a bare minimum. In a home defense situation, put as many locked doors between you and the threat as possible. If the threat persists, use whatever force is necessary to preserve your life or the life of your family.
Outside the house, don't bother carrying anything if you don't have a permit to carry. If you *do* get a permit to carry, most people agree that at a *bare* minimum, a .32 ACP is the smallest defense caliber. Others contend that a .380 is the minimum.
The one basic similarity of all of these firearms is that with a certain level of skill, awareness, and discipline, they might tip the scale in your favor when it comes to a life or death situation. More importantly, these guns fire actual projectiles with the purpose of incapacitating and/or stopping a threat.
A blank gun will very likely get you killed in pretty much any situation where a real gun might save you.

Hell no!!
A blank gun is nothing but a noise maker. If you point a blank gun at an armed attacker, you are going to get severely injured or killed. And brandishing a blank gun can get you in just as much legal trouble as waving a real handgun around without cause.
If you can't or won't carry a real firearm, get a good cane from www.canemasters.com and learn to use it as a defensive tool.

Absolutely NOT!
Anything you'll get in trouble for for using a real gun will get you in just as much legal trouble if you're using a look-alike blank gun. The only difference is, using a blank gun, you're defenseless from someone who has a real gun. If you pull out a gun, they're probably going to try and shoot you before you can shoot them. If you carry it outside your home, you can be charged with anything that carrying a real pistol would entitle the state to charge you with.
To protect from home invasion, you'd be better off by just screaming really loud. However, if you're looking for a real way to defend yourself, you can pick up a pump-action shotgun for hardly more than a nice blank firing gun would cost you, and it'll actually defend you when you need it to.

What in the world do you figure on protecting, using a blank gun,
if you decide that you need it, to protect you from some thug, all i can say is
KEEP YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE PAID UP.
i guess, that if you have hemroid problems, you can use the blank gun to protect your opening, if you use the gun properly

Protection from what??? If you're talking an animal that is easily startled by the noise...I suppose so. If you're talking from possibly armed people it's a very bad idea. Flashing a gun that can't possibly stop someone bent on harming you will only make the situation worse.

How many different ways are you going to ask the same question? Blank guns are noise-makers, period.

Hardly....Might scare a Dog off but not any humans. Get you arrested real quick too if you get caught carrying one in public .The police won't care nor will they take the time to find out that it's a blank gun and you'll still get charged with a weapons charge, or possibly get yourself shot.BAD IDEA......

If you shoot at an attacker with a real gun, he'll probably react by shooting you. Therefore, you've basically caused your own death with one.
