how do u sweep some one or get out of half guard position if ur on bottom
and when in a fight if ur takedown fails would u go for a throw or would u still look to get his legs

and one last thing, when i tried the armbar the arm was laying on my croutch and it killed like a bitc*

I've recently started sparring in a medieval combat game that uses padded weapons. I'm finding that I fall down a lot-- sometimes it's intentional, like when I'm dramatically falling 'dead' after someone 'kills' me, and sometimes it's not, like when someone heavier and taller than me knocks me to the ground. I'm afraid that I'm going to eventually hurt myself with these tumbles, espescially with the unplanned ones.

Are there any techniques I can learn to help me fall more safely, so I can minimize the chances of injury? I usually try to throw my hands out to catch myself, but I'm not certain if this helps any.

I will think hard about the answers, but if I can't find one answer I like the most: I will allow the question to be open for voting.

i prefer sources(books) that i can find at a library much easier.

I want to learn a martial art for self defense and to improve my health, though there seems to be so many different styles that I don't know where to start. Also, I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, so if anyone can recommend a training facility it would be much appreciated.

I live in a city where danger is lurking in the corner.

The only martial arts here in my city are the ones available:

+Kickboxing (Wushu Sanshu)

+Muay Thai (by MILO)

+Boxing --> I enrolled for a month a long time ago

+Karate-do

+Arnis (It's a local martial art that uses two sticks for self-defense)

+Taekwondo

+Taebo --> I'm not even sure if this really is a martial art..it's more like a dance, really.

+Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (But it's too expensive and I can't afford to enroll in that class)

+Aikido ---> enrolled for a month 6 months ago

+Mindanao Unified Martial Arts; Circular and Linear Techniques (But the place looks and smells crappy)

I have a girlfriend and my own life to defend. And I'm not old enough to get a license for a gun yet. I can't even afford a gun.

So, what's the best martial art to use (on the above choices) on the streets? With me having no weapons and a thug using a knife or a stick or a rock?

I have taken Aikido for a little while now. However when we practice the "attacker" doesn't EVER resist during drills! I have to let out of shape people who are half my size and a 1/16 of my strength submit me EVEN though I could easily pull away or throw them or punch them or kick them or even choke them out!!!!!!!!! I let the Sensei put a wrist and arm lock on one of my arms, but I had to hand him a OPEN HAND! The whole time I knew I could easily escape! And who the hell hands someone there hands so they could put a lock on it! Am I wrong about this or has anyone used Aikido IN REAL LIFE ATTACKS AND HAD IT WORK!??? The little skinny and fat guys and gals in the class think this stuff works you should see them!!!!!!!!

I am thinking of switching to Krav Maga! I just did a Krav session and it was REALLY realistic. During just the drills the "attacker" would actually try and hit you!

I am study aikido in an academy where i pay a monthly fee of about $30, however the sensei (and owner of the dojo) charges people money when they take an exam to try to advance in rank, and this exam price goes up when the rank does, 8th kyu costs about $25 but by 5th kyu or so its about $50-$75
is this how it is suppose to be done? how is it done in japan?
