Jo-do is Japanese stick fighting.
The 'Jo' is the small stick, while the 'Bo' is the long pole.

Jo-do is used by several styles of Jiu-jitsu. The 'Jo' is about the same size as a broom handle but made from hard wood (usually from the 'heart' of the tree). You can really nail somebody really good with Jo-do, and you can easily use Jo-do with a cane or umbrella in a pinch.
Aikido, and my style of jiu-jitsu Hakko-Ryu, both teach the 'jo' or short-staff.

Bo- long staff
Jo- short staff
Jo Do is the "Way of the short staff"
It's a supplemental weapons training for Aikido, usually taught as an aid in learning proper footwork, tai sabaki and distance gauging, it also teaches sensitivity. Proficiency in the use of the Jo is a requirement for taking the test for nidan.
The legendary japanese swordsman Miyamoto Mushashi reputedly suffered his only loss in combat to a farmer who was a master of the Jo.

Never heard of it, but I'd guess it's the way of Jo....nice guy, but he owes me $5.
-------- amendment --------
Ah, the answers below make much more sense. I completely spaced the weapon of the jo. Still, I'd never heard of it being it's own art or form prior to now. Good to know.
