I know that ju-jitsu has "Part 1" which has some basic strikes, but aside from that, is there any difference between judo and ju-jitsu?

I would like to get her into some kind of self-defense classes. Would martial arts be a good idea? And what form of martial arts would be best suited for her?

The match took place at PRIDE's "Final Conflict Absolute" just a few days ago. Aleks won, by the way.

How many other people would like to see a woman's division in the UFC? They could have one women's fight each pay-per-view. If you think so, email the UFC, I already have. Maybe if they see that more people are interested in it, they'll look into it more.

Rich Franklin vs. Matt Hughes. I personally hope they don't ever go up or down in weight to fight each other because they are two of my favorites. But if they did, who would win? Check out a couple of my other questions I'm getting ready to post!

At least Tito actually has skills and has actually beaten some fighters that you've heard of. But both are obnoxious jerks that you can't wait to see get punched in the mouth! Who did you want to see get beat down?

I notice most people here perfer to preach about how you should have self control and try to do minimum damage when it come to real fight. That's so stupid! What's the point in having self control and do minimum damage? Don't people realize that today if someone is getting beaten by you, they will pull out a knife or have friends gang up on them? This isn't like a old day where you get in fight then shake hand and go home and forget about everything.

To actually survive the real situtation, you would need to try to stay out of the situtation as much as possible. If it come to worse, it's better to go for maximum damages so you can leave with less risk of getting hurt or killed. Yes I know many will say "but you will get sued" Well think about this which would you perfer, dealing with court room or having your family deal with your furneal?

So my question is why do people think they need to focus so much on do minimum damage and self control?

Karate, Jujitsu, Taiquando, Tai chi?

2006-09-10 18:15:10 · 20 answers · asked by Anonymous

I've already researched both of these martial arts. But there are a few gaps I need to fill in.

My questions here are:

1) Has any practitioner of aikido ever competed in the UFC or PRIDE FC? Just confirming.

2) What's the actual effectiveness (on the street) of these two martial arts? Statistical info would help.

I've read some data about Jujitsu being used in the streets to overpower and disable attackers but no info/data on aikido.

Straight answers very much welcome. Wise-crackers are welcome too but your answers don't really help.

Thanks.
