a uniform is called several things; in Japanese it's Gi (verbalized as gee), in Korea it's called a Dobok (pronounced as dough bock), it has different meanings for each Asian culture.

Karate uniform is called gi. Gi is not used exclusively by karateka. Other japanese martial arts practitioner also use gi (i.e. Judo, Aikido, Kendo, etc). Some martial arts like Aikido and Kendo add black hakama to their gi.

some practioners wear hakama, that is the wide dress looking pants. These are more formal and for weapons training.
