Horse Racing

Very sad to hear that Barbaro was put down on Monday, but wasn't this the only outcome? There is a reason why they usually euthanise horses immediatly after such a severe injury: there are just too many complications involved and you could argue that Barbaro was put through 8 months of pain for nothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm very sad that he has been put down, we were all rooting for a miracle, but surely it would have been kinder to destroy him at the time.

Do you think it would be good to make a movie about him?
Do you think the triple crown races are too close together? Could it be possible that this contributed to Barbaro breaking his leg? Would it be better to spread the triple crown races further apart, say 1 month apart from each other?

Are there any horse fans out there who miss Barbaro as much as I do? I think that it was wonderful that his jockey atleast slowed him down and stopped him when he hurt his leg. But I think it was very sad because I as well as many others thought Barbaro was going to make a full recovery. He was such a wonderful horse and I was so upset when I found out they put him down. Your Thoughts?

I think it was a really stupid deciddion after they spent so much time, money, and effort on helping down the road to recovery.

I'm positive that if Barbaro wasn't all roided up like Bonds at a weightlifting competition I believe he wouldn't have shattered his leg. I mean the horse wasn't jumping or being hit with a baseball bat, he was just running in a race. Why is it legal to pump up those horses and not legal to pump up a human who does the same thing-race?

i am agaisnt horse racing! those poor horses are bred to run their hearts out everyday, and they get surgery to make their throats bigger to breath better which causes them to barf up all of their food, and most of them break their legs, or go crazy, or have lung problems! its not fair to those horses! i say they are all abused and i dont care what anybody else says! all to get money on betting

its so sad..

Why don't we legalize cockfighting and dog fighting. I mean the animals are just doing what instinct tells them to. Horses just race because they love to run. Hey dogs fight because thats what they love to do. Who's for bringing back the a good ole american dog fight championship? We could have it a Church Hill Downs when their not killing horses,..... you know the off season.

for those of you that don't know, Barbaro was euthanized earlier today. i think that most horse people(myself included) had said that he should have been put down when it happened. what does everyone else now think? that horse went through a lot of suffering.

How many folks out there are as broken hearted as I am about the fact they chose to put Barbaro down?
I am absolutley crushed. I have followed this story since day one, and really felt the little 4 year old would come out ok.
