Movie? Triple Crown?
You have some good answers already, but let me add some input as well....
The Barbaro saga lives on. The next Kentucky Derby will no doubt have a tribute to this people's horse.
Whether one day a blockbuster movie like "Seabiscuit" gets produced is difficult to predict. I would think a documentary on the medical team's efforts would be in the cards.
Now, about that elusive Triple Crown, it surely appears the breed is getting too close, and solid animals who are bred to last, is slowly dying out. All thoroughbreds trace their lineage to three stallions imported to England in the late 1700's .
Just look up the bloodlines of any one animal today, and you most likely see some Secretariat lines, or Seattle Slew, or any other great sire...and you may see it repeated a few times as well.
If the complex world of genetics were to apply, we might indeed be going through a weakening effect.
Combine that theory with the closeness of races of the Triple Crown, and you come up with a solid reason for why no great racing marvel like Barbaro can do what was done in 1978.
Therefore, spacing Triple Crown races further apart, or delaying them until when they develop more, or maybe modifying the Triple Crown series...all these issues may need to be considered.
Some of the records set by Secretariat have not been broken, so that is an indication that the breed hasn't improved much in the past 33 years. Might I remind you that Secretariat didn't go to stud duty undefeated. He lost four races (one on a disqualification), so where was his greatness?
...on the caliber of competitors he raced against!
...and on the majestic manner in which he made what appears very difficult, actually easy.

Do you think it would be good to make a movie about him?
No because unfortunately he didn't survive.
Do you think the triple crown races are too close together?
No I do not.
Could it be possible that this contributed to Barbaro breaking his leg?
I see it as this, for years breeders have been breeding for lighter horses to travel faster. Due to this I think bone structure is being destroyed, the bones are simply too thin or too weak now. And if I ever get to see a triple crown winner, I will be suprised. Trainers, breeders, and owners I do not believe train horses like they used to because bloodlines are worth too much to take the chance in ruining a horse. But I do think racing starts the horses out at too young of an age. I think a horse's first year of racing would start when they were three, and the Triple Crown races be held until they were four. Arabian's starting racing at older ages, and they are built just as delicate as a Thoroughbred. I think we'd see less break downs if racing started even just a year later in a Thoroughbred's life.

I personally would like to read a book by Dr. Richardson about his care of Barbaro. As far as the movie, right now I think it is too soon to do it. People are still hurting. My family loves Barbaro just like we love our own horse. (QH gelding, bay...looks a bit like Barbaro, actually) I totally disagree with the person who says they race these horses "mulitple times per week"....uh, no. The 5 weeks are a bit tough. Perhaps one race each month might be nice, plus it would spread out the excitement. I don't think it had anything to do with the injury. Barbaro just came off a 5 week rest period prior to the Derby. I have often thought that perhaps when Barbaro broke early at the gate just prior to the injury, he may have put a hairline break in some part of his leg....then when he reached top speed, the break could not sustain the stresses. The other theory people have is that Brother Derek accidently kicked him and caused part of the injury. Whatever the case, he was a brave and wonderful soul. God bless him and let's all be happy for the time we got to know him. Now, let's support his full brother, Man In Havana and his half brother, yet unnamed. He also has a full brother due to be born in the spring. Let's hope we see a little of their brother in them. God bless you, Barbaro. : ) Good set of questions.

There is a possibility of a movie, but not likely. It is possible that the closeness of the races had something to do with it. Barbaro was use to very long lay offs after his races. But its not likely. Horses where use to racing everyweek about a week ago sometimes mulitple times a week.

I don't think that a story of Barbaro would hold much movie interest. Unlike Seabiscut, Barbaro was only known mainly in the horse racing community. Seabiscut was huge because of the medium of entertainment in its day. Its following was also widely watched because of the controversy behind Ford trying to introduce his new 'automobile' at the time also. AS for you other questions, I don't know enough about horse racing to completely make a remark on them.

I think a movie would be great about Barbaro. I don't think it would matter if the races are farther apart. Horses break legs all the time.

There would have been a movie if he lived, but probably not now unless they change the story. And no I do not believe the races are too close together. However, I do believe they are too early in the horses lives. Young horse's bones are not given a chance to develope.
