How many folks out there are as broken hearted as I am about the fact they chose to put Barbaro down?
I am absolutley crushed. I have followed this story since day one, and really felt the little 4 year old would come out ok.

Unfortunatley the vendors really needed the most acceptable for there horse Barbaro. Or he become this variety of wide funding that even with if he couldn't race any extra imagine the money they can make if he were to be able so stud?? various human beings don't realize that those are paychecks no longer horses. even although those horses are dealt with like Gods at the same time as they are in proper operating order, they are often brushed off merely as easily at the same time as they start up to free there stamina. they say the vendors merely had to keep him, and in Dec each and every thing become searching ok he become even strolling out area of his ICU stall. yet infections and Laminitis took over and there become no longer some thing they could do they didn't want him to conflict through anymore. i imagine that they had the most acceptable intentions at coronary heart, yet they were also protecting their funding. hard call at the same time as there is 1000's of thousands in touch.

Yes, unfortunately. He may need to be put out of his misery. That's the problem with horse racing. If a horse is injured, he/she is "retired" and could possibly be put to sleep (depending on how bad the injury is) since they rely on standing on all fours (humans, on the other hand, are able to use crutches and are able to lie down and elevate any broken limb).

UPDATE: I finally checked Yahoo news to discover that Barbaro was put down. It's sad that a horse with a promising career such as his would end very shortly.

Me too!! I have been following the story pretty close. I am deeply sadenned to hear they had to take this course of action. The owners gave the horse a chance and that is all you can ask for! The horse nation suffered a serious loss today!

If he were my horse,he'd have been put down May 20 2006 on the track. He was kept alive because he won the derby and had a high stud fee.

I just found out.
I am devestated. I thought for sure it would come out okay, he was doing pretty well for a while there. God, I think I'm going to cry. What a poor animal. My heart goes out to the ones who knew and loved him.

I agree, they make fake limbs for horses. I wonder why they didnt try that. At least that way, he could still stand at stud. Poor guy, fought hard to the end.

Do you think that kind of decision would be made without thought? I am sure they tried every possible way to save that prize horse.

They tried and tried. If it was any other horse they would have put him down at the racetrack right after his accident. You can't fault anyone.
