Arrghh!! Why do the American's seem to think that everything they do is the greatest! The Breeders' Cup Classic (or the KY Derby for that matter) does NOT attract the best horses in the world, 90% of the runners are from the USA with one or two turning up from Europe just to have a go. If it attracted the best horses, where are the Japanese or Australian horses? The vast majority of the racehorses on this planet race on turf, and you only have to look at how average Cigar was on turf to realise that dirt racing is not of a hugely high standard. I don't mean to offend anyone by saying this, but it is they way I feel.

The most prestigious race would be a tie between the Epsom Derby and The Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe. The Epsom Derby has all the history and prestige attached to it. Run since 1780 the race has been won by some of the greatest horses to grace the turf.

Federico Tessio (breeder of the mighty Ribot) said "The thoroughbred exists because its selection has depended not on experts, technicians or zoologists but on a piece of wood: the winning post of the Epsom Derby." I think that says it all.

The "Arc" has also been won by some mighty horses. The winners list reads like a who's who of the horse world. Now there's a race that attracts runners form all over the world.

The Breeders' Cup Classic without a doubt. It gets the best horses in the world every year from all ages (unlike the Kentucky Derby, which is just for 3 year olds), and the winner almost always wins Horse of the Year, such as this year with Invasor. The prize money is also the largest purse in America, and it headlines the biggest day on the racing calendar.
