I ablsolutly agree with you. Some Barbaro was an inspiration... Those same people will be inspired by the next derby winner next year. They will remeber horse racing at 'The kentucky Derby' and nothing more. And really, most of these people are people who would never watch a horse race except that the derby is on TV and they think Horsies are pretty.
These people pray and feel sorry for ONE horse that has been pampered, and yet seem to pay no mind to the horses being slaughtered and injured everyday.

Barbaro was more than just a horse. He inspired people. He introduced people to horses and helped them learn more. He was on track to be a great racer, and when that dream was derailed, he was on track to prove the odds wrong.
He was a living breathing creature. He has emotions and feelings. Why do we always seem to place less importance on an animal? You know, really, we are all just animals.
So I guess if something happened to you and it was all over the news...we could just say "get over it...he's just a human".
If you don't like all the news coverage, don't watch the segment, don't read the articles, and don't post your disrespect in some horse racing area of a website! No one is forcing you to watch or read this information. So why don't you "GET OVER IT"??

he's a champion, worth millions. his celebrity status and semen value floated the many vain surgeries and medical procedures. thoroughbred horses are magnificent but fragile creatures. people wanted him to live, but i agree, it was a risky and overly-optimistic approach to try and save him. at the end he looked awful -- his rear left hoof looked like a peg, it had been whittled down so much. sad, but they gave it a shot. maybe the work they did can help save another horse in the future with a less severe fracture.

I loved the WAY he won the Kentucky Derby, the way he accelerated out of the turn and blew them away on the back stretch was awesome. I love all animals and I don't like to see any of them hurt but that's just me.
