"Andrea" is a man's name in Italy (Andreina is the feminine version), making it an unusual choice for a footballer. I'm just wondering if he's gay, homophilic, or maybe has a German or an American sweetheart. Anyone have any clues?

And it's not Klinsmann.... which is a shame, since he was brilliant. But they have a new one, in time for euro 2008 training and qualfier matches (early i know.).

Juergen Klinsmann, who led Germany to a surprise third-place finish in the World Cup and won over the hearts of the nation, confirmed he is stepping down and assistant Joachim Low would take his place.

'I want to thank everyone, especially the fans, who pushed us along to this fantastic success,' the 41-year-old Klinsmann told a news conference in Frankfurt as he fought back tears.

'It was the most beautiful World Cup ever. We've created a new image of the Germans around the world.'

Klinsmann came under fierce criticism prior to the World Cup, notably for his decisions to commute from his adopted home in California and bring in an American fitness trainer whose modern methods were ridiculed by German soccer traditionalists.

But he silenced the doubters by steering Germany to the semi-finals.

Do *all* French players headbutt their opponents?

Of course not.

Neither do *all* Italian players insult their opponents. I've read some of you think that's their routine strategy, though.

Well, they are really dumb then. They could get Zidane sent off earlier in the game... Not only wouldn't he have kicked penalties for France, but he wouldn't also have tried to score against them or helped his teammates do so.

Come on people, just because Materazzi is an idiot, you can't infer a whole team or a whole nation are like him!!!

And stop bashing the French too, those of you who are doing so.

The match is over. The World Cup is over.

Italy won, but they lost to Brazil on penalty shootouts in the final in 1994. They also lost to France on penalty shootouts in the quarterfinals in 1998. This time, it was just Italy's turn to win the same exact way they lost in the past. End of the story.

Or should I just start headbutting all those who are insulting Italy? ;-)

Will he return as Germany's goalkeeper? I know he will be 40 by then, but he is such a great goalkeeper and deserves another chance at winning the World Cup.

In an interview on French TV, Zidane said that Materazzi had insulted his mother and sister and he was justified to attack Materazzi because a man is supposed to react that way. Is he sayig that verbal insult should be met with physical violence. Basically he is supporting rage beatings? I think the best way to ignore the insulter and walk away. WHat is the point of being equally stupid and childish.

Because many of you thought that Materazzi said the word "Terrorist" you thought it just to call him racist names and insults. Why were you so quick to accuse him? Why did it justify your reverse racism? Even if one man had said something racist, it was met with the racism of thousands.
France played well, and they scored the only goal on Italy for the entire world cup. Not to mention that the second place team gets 18million from fifa. Thats only 2 mil less than the first place winner. so be happy

If we had seen pictures flashed around the world of a bald shirtless England fan head butting another fan in the street he would have been arrested.

Furthermore, no matter what the provocation or racial slurs he would have been detained until he went to court facing a certain prison sentence and banned from attending future international football matches.

One law for the rich and famous and one law for the rest.

I just finished wathcing Zidane's interview on the french television.

Few thinks are clear:

- He pulled his jersey (big deal!)
- Zidane told him that he can have it after the game (big deal!)
- Materazzi insulted his siter and than his mother (dying in a hospital in Marseille!) using "very hard words". He didn't say which words...(bittch, terrorist, ???)
- He said it not once but several times...after the third time he couldn't take it anymore and he "snaped"...
- He did not confirm if the word "terrorist" was used or not (he was not asked this question by the TV guy!)
- He also said that he would give more details to the FIFA...
- It pretty much confirms what the British newspapers are claiming about insults on his sister and mother.

What would you have done if your mother was dying in a hospital and someone insults her using "very hard words"? Would you let it go by you one time, two times and than snap or would you walk away from it? Personally, I would snap, sorry..
