if the alleged lip readers were Italian and they translated what Materazzi said (since he spoke it in Italian) how did Zidane understand what Materazzi said if he said it in Italian????

Zidane speaks Italian.
An article in the Washington Post stated this.
It also mentioned that the translations were inaccurate, and that Zidane's and Materazzi's accounts of the insult differ.

Yes he does.
He used to play for the Italian Serie A club Juventus from 1996 - 2001. He learnt it then.

Zidane does speak italian. he used to play with Cameronese, Zambrotta, Del Piero, Buffon, and more all in a italian club team Juventus. since it is a italian club team, you have to speak and understand italian. so since Zidane was on the team he had to speak the language
