I shake my head in disbelief when reading some of the comments regarding the 2006 World Cup. The terms "clueless" & "lack of originality" come to mind. I am curious as to why the Italians are hated so much. They have been called racist, talentless, poor sports, etc... with no just cause. I've watched every game in the series and believe that all teams played their best and deserved to be there. Italy won because they earned it. There was no fix. The Italians are not racist. I can only think that such comments derive from false rumors, misunderstandings and pure jealousy. Hating the Italians and saying horrible things against them or anyone else (ie: Zidane) is just idiotic. This should be a happy time for them and it is not right to steal their spotlight. I'm sure you would be saying the same someone else won too. Sometimes there are a few sour grapes in the bunch. Grow up. As for Zidane & Matarazzi, don't assume anything, only the two of them know what happened. It will come out soon.

By all means the World cup games are rigged, at least the quarterfinals and the final itself. I have been doing some reasearch in the economical matter of the world cup and by all means FIFA would have had more gains including the European Clubs, Leagues and tournaments, if Italy would win the world cup.
In the match Argentina vs. Germany this couldnt be any more clearer but for a totally different reason, the game was rigged favoring the locals. It was predetermined to go to penalties, and to be sure of that the Argentine goalkeeper left the field after an apparent injury that I believe never happened. He just didnt want to ruin his image for being the cause that argentina would lose that day. Lehmanthe german goalkeeper received a paper from one of the coaches that had the shot position of each of the argentine panalty takers, he went the right way in every single shot. He later confesed that he had indeed received such information and would open up a museum featuring it.

Because African immigration to Italy is relatively recent!!! (It probably started 10-20 years ago). When there's talented players of African origins, they'll be part of the team too. Remember that you have to be a citizen to play for a national team!!!

France and England had colonies in Africa for many many years, and that favored the immigration of African people to those countries. Italy only had Ethiopia and Somalia (under Mussolini) and lost them very soon.

I know I answered my question myself, but I read some stupid comments somewhere, claiming "the Italians are racist because they don't have any colored player in their team".

I lived in Italy most of my life and my father worked in an office where they helped immigrants, so I know.

If Materazzi really said something racist, don't you worry, he will pay for it.

Man, I'm so sick to read people call us Italians "racist"!!! Grrrrrrrrr

I am certainly not racist tho I know many racist people. What the World Cup/George Cross debate has taught me is that I am so proud to be English. I love my country. I don't have a chip on my shoulder..we may have played badly till Rooney got sent off but hey.. we qualified. If we never qualify again I can say I am so proud to be English and so happy not to be part of the football racism of our neighbours. Any comments?
