Paolo Maldini is the standard for all defenders
Cannavaro continued the italy armband, but Maldini could still hold it right now if he didn't quit internationals.

Paolo Maldini! a defender who's a steel at the back and scoring goals which will put many strikers to shame. Ironically, no world cup or european cup medals throughtout his career...

Hi,
Cannavaro and then Nesta.
Nesta is also as good as Cannavaro I think or maybe better, he did not play in 2006 so I cannot judge him.

Fabio Cannavaro - a genius. Almost never gives away a penalty/free kick/corner or even a throw-in.
And has a good sporting spirit too!

I agree with you. Maldini was amazing, and so is Cannavaro.

I have two, Franz Beckenbauer and Franco Baresi, from the old days.
And Paolo Maldini and Gianluca Zambrotta, from the more recent years. :)

Cannavaro from Italy. Best goalie would be Ricardo from Portugal.
