Seriously, whether Zidane would have remained in the game does not mean France would have won. Both teams played hard on preventing each other to have another goal which lead to the penalty kicks. Unfortunately some players exchange comments or insults on the field after playing a long game. But, nevertheless, what is said on the field should of never have led to a head-butting. On this particular event shame on anyone who thinks, that the head-butting was justified.

It doesn't matter why he provoked Zidane, the world cup is over, and no matter how bad Materazzi provoked Zidane, there was no reason for him to act so drastically, I personally thought that it was pretty emature for Zidane to hit Materazzi like that, but it doesn't matter Zidane got the award of the best player of the world cup even though he acted so emature! In MY personal opinion Zidane didn't deserve that award at all!!!

I think it was a pre planned scheme that Italians had in their mind to get Zidane out of the game.Fun part was that now every other player would think thrice before they insult their opponent cause never know when u might get a hard head butt.Zidane would always be remembered as a legend and for the guys who are saying that he shouldn't have done that... they should put themselves in his shoes and see what does it fell like when someone insults you.Materazzi is lucky that it was Zidane who just head butt him, If it was someone else that individual would have done something worst than that.

It's called "talking smack" in the world of sports and life in general. Zidane should have kept his cool, gave some lip back and went back to playing. At that level such drastic antics as striking another player out of anger over words is uncalled for. Zidane should be slaped on the hand more for this and should appologies for his actions, that's the sportsman thing to do.

they provoked him to get him out of the game. they knew getting him out would make the french team weaker. materazzi isnt a momma's boy, he was a smart thinker and knew what he was doing as well as the other italian players knew. i rooted for the italians and i knew the second they showed it that is why they did it. so contradicting your statement i think zidane is more of the mommas boy because he fell for the bait didnt he? he should have been smarter than that. viva italia they are the best

He's not Facist , n' u should know that Lippi is a great man with a great personality!

Zidane said Matterazzi told him "SOMETHING SERIOUS" ( BBC worls service) . something like terrorist but Materazzi Denied it , i dont think that fifa can prove it. and i think Materazzi jus wanned 2 make Zidane angry n' he succeed with it

Because in sport that happens every now and then, how many can remember Mohamed Ali the boxer they nicknamed him the mouth, Zidane should not have reacted.

for obvious reasons of course. because he knew how it would end. zidane was coming so close to scoring & france was really keeping the ball in their end. it would be only a matter of time before they scored. he could of also helped them a lot if they were to go to PK's so yeah...if zidane was sent out of the game, he could no longer help his team!!
