It is superb. I dislike people who judge entire teams - and often entire countries - on the actions of individual players. The foul name calling by Materazzi and the equally foul head butting by Zidane should not represent the entire squad they play for. Each player has his own decisions to make and just because those two players made the wrong decisions, it doesn't mean that Italy did not deserve to win World Cup 2006.

Well, I know you won't choose my answer, but, no, I did not think it was superb. They were playing well, and even though I was rooting for France, I was willing to say they were earning it. But I am convinced that they harassed Zidane, and that what Materazzi said, about Z's religion, ethnicity, typical mother slurs, calling him a n*gger and a dirty terrorist, was just low handed. And I have no doubt from knowing the two players and from reading up since then, that it indeed happened that way. FIFA had said that racism will not be tolerated. Yes, all sportmen say nasty things to each other, but this was personal insult. And it showed a very ugly side to the Italian team. And just how belilevable is Materazzi saying he does not know what terrorist is and he is ignorant. Please... As if he needed to recite the definition out of a dictionary. Who does not know that calling someone a terrorist because they're Arab is racist? yuck.

I feel it was simply more superb that France LOST the FIFA World Cup 2006.

I still remember when it was a laugh riot to type "French victories" into Google and it would return "Are you sure you didn't mean 'French defeats'?"

Hi,

Absolutely. When I find out Lippi was the new Italian coach I immeditiely started thinking positive about Italy... That is way back 2 years ago.

Lippi always shows he is great, and I think he was the man that brought Italy to the win!

For me and all the Italian fans, of course it is!!!

For the people who were rooting for other teams, especially those that Italy defeated, it isn't. Bad sportsmanship is so common these days...

Of course, they haven't won it in a long time. It's better they win it instead of France, because of that one player being a poor sport.
