Because African immigration to Italy is relatively recent!!! (It probably started 10-20 years ago). When there's talented players of African origins, they'll be part of the team too. Remember that you have to be a citizen to play for a national team!!!

France and England had colonies in Africa for many many years, and that favored the immigration of African people to those countries. Italy only had Ethiopia and Somalia (under Mussolini) and lost them very soon.

I know I answered my question myself, but I read some stupid comments somewhere, claiming "the Italians are racist because they don't have any colored player in their team".

I lived in Italy most of my life and my father worked in an office where they helped immigrants, so I know.

If Materazzi really said something racist, don't you worry, he will pay for it.

Man, I'm so sick to read people call us Italians "racist"!!! Grrrrrrrrr

"colored" was the word used in the anti-Italian comment, not my choice!

everybody is calling italians racist and its driving me crazy. First of all nobody has proof of what Materazzi said and he has denied any racist slurs toward Zidane( who has no excuse for his actions) Italy's one player who is not 100% italian is Cameranesi who is from argentina. But, also remember that you must be a citizen and Zidane once played for an italian team, just not in the world cup, and another player they had who was Algerian left the team after the last World Cup because of other fans and coaches racist comments towards him
