Please fogive me for being so ignorant about this. I know the brakes work well, there is a little rust on the chain, and the seat seems to be in working order. So why do I need a bike tune up?

i just bought a set of Shimano LX hydro brakes, and i have a few questions. this is my first set of hydros. i know they only use that expensive shimano mineral oil...

do both brake pads dial in against the rotor, or a single pad?

how often do i need to bleed the lines, or replace the fluid?

does the fluid get thicker in cold weather? (winter here gets around 20degrees)

is there any chance at all for the brakes to fail? (except if there is a leak in the lines, is there any other risk?)

is there anything else important that i should know about these brakes? all answers will be greatly appreciated.

I got a Trek 8000 Police bike in a government auction. The only thing it needs is new tires and tubes. Tire size is 26 x 2.1 and I can get them at Wal-Mart but the tubes are unlike anything I've seen before. The valve stem is half the size of a regular stem and it has some sort of thing blocking where the air goes in. Wal-Mart only had the regular tubes so should I just drill the hole in the wheel to fit a regular tube or look elsewhere?

A little while ago I asked if I was too fat to ride a bike. I got ALOT of answers and plenty of encouragement, thank you all very much.

Now I really want to get one. My boyfriend mentioned Walmart to go bike shoping but I dont think they have that great of a selection. Any suggestions of what type of bike I should get, being that I have a butt bigger than the whole bike? I'm looking for a mountain bike.

I used to ride a bike all the time. To school, work, and just for fun. But over the years (9 to be exact) I have put on ALOT of weight and aside from going to the gym a few times a week, I'd like to start bike riding again.
My boyfriend (fiance) said he would buy me a bike for x-mas if I'd like so that we can go bike riding together. Now, before I start looking for bikes with him I'd like to know, is there a weight limit on bikes? If I start sitting on some bikes to try them out, should I worry about popping a tire? Is there any other more than chubby person out there with any adivce?

I am replacing my heavy and kinda old mountain bike and am looking at a 29" wheeled bike as an alternative (a Fisher Paragon 29'er to be exact). I ride a lot (1400 miles this year) and have heard about all the benefits of a bike with 29" wheels... I'm also just over 6 foot and I've also been told that I would really enjoy this kind of bike. I am really interested in how they handle and if there is any kind of learning curve involved with riding this type of bike... Also is there any things I should know before I go buy one? Do they not last as long? Any input would be very appreciated....
