I have been cycling for about 4 months now, i have a GIANT TCR C2 2006 model so the bike is good to go fast. Now i am generally going out on a saturday morning on my own for 50kms to 90km bike rides and i would love to eventually do some racing over this distance. I started with an average speed of 25kms per hour, now i have gone up to 29kms per hour on a 72km bike ride which had some hills and a slight breeze. I am generally riding on my own although sometimes i will tuck behind someone but only for about 5 minutes max so i know it is all by myself.

Tell me how should i train to get speed. I have fitness but am new to the bike and not sure best approach. It gets a bit dangerous where i am at night after work so i got a wind trainer. So i am not sure, when i go out on a saturday should i push hard in spurts or keep it at a constant speed? Should i just be happy to continue to get the kms in the legs and as they develop so to the speed will increase? Will work at a Valadrome help???

Don't get me wrong, he's a world class rider, but I don't like him. And he looks like a monkey. More so when he smiles, with those little teeth of his..

I cannot find one on-line. Speed is not an issue (slower is ok)
Total workout is better. 3 wheels ok. maybe a pivot in the frame I could steer by twisting from the hip

I tend to leave my bike outside all year. It snows here and someone said I shouldn't do that because it damages the parts. Truth?

My daughter asked for spinning shoes that she would use during spinning class. I've check all local sports stores and none had them or heard of them. Are there special shoes for spinning and where would I find them?

The length of fork used on a bicycle affects the handling .
But what and how does one detemine if a particular length is suitable ?
Is there a particular method other than refering to the manual or its manufacturer's website ? Hardtails and full-sus behave rather differently , so is there a way of finding a suitable fork that does not mess up the handling of it ?

I'm just looking for some other input... I'm also going to be buying a full suspension bike, and I was wondering if any of you guys had a suggestion for one of those... Specialized, or Trek... Kona even... And some prices?
I Free ride(full), Dirt jump(kona) and various races... I need a durable fork for more beefy dirt jumping, and a beefy frame for my freestyle.

Thanks a whole bunch.
Keep riding!

I'm having problems with bike locks. I live in IL, so it gets pretty cold, with snow and ice and all. I need a bike lock that will work, not get stuck, and not freeze shut. I've already tried a couple cable locks that have gotten stuck or got ice stuck in the lock.

Does anyone know a decent bike lock that will work, even in the winter?

Or does anyone know how to fix locks with these problems?

I have finally convinced a good friend of mine to get a bike!!! This will be her first bike (since she was 10 or something) and she's a little nervous going into a shop so I agreed to go shopping with her. Then I got to thinking I don't really know much about hybrid type $300-$500 dollar beginner bikes? I know much more about expensive racing road bikes and honestly don't know where to begin to help her with this. Any suggestions or things to ask/look for.

Don't like derailleurs. Get snagged up and require continual adjustment and wear the chain out.

Like the idea of a rear drum brake as well, at least one brake totally reliable and little or no maintenance.

I cycle 5000 miles a year, 50% on off-road paths and small hills regularly so wide gears needed.

Also carry loads on the bike (but not up the hills), shopping, goods etc.

Dodgy terrain is pretty much everywhere including the roads.

Moonless night and no street lamps = pitch black.

I want to see where I am going and none of the pocket-sized lights seem to be powerful enough by a long way.

Need a powerful light, but these have different batteries and chargers!

im talking about the carbon used on bikes. what is it made of? ive tried doing some research on this, but i realized that there are so many types of carbon composites and i have no idea what it is thats on bikes. my friend thinks im insane for pouring so much money into buying carbon components and i cant really argue with him cuz i know nothing about it other than its strong and really light. he says that us cyclist pay top-dollar just for recycled garbage. enlighten me, please.
