I heard that biking on a life cycle or a bike where your more horizontal and laying out straight for 2 miles is equal to running 1 mile. Is this true?

Hi I would love any suggestions that anyone might have. My boyfriend's birthday is on dec 1 and he loves biking - he loves road biking, mtn biking and cycle cross and he races/competes in all of those areas.
He has a ton of biking gear and works in a bike shop part-time in the summer (he is a teacher) so has access to whole sale bike stuff.
Is there something out there different and bicycle related that I could get him? I would appreciate any input thank you so much!

My question is.....Since I personally know the bicycle shop owners, what type of business propostion is appropriate? This is starting off on a small scale to see if the idea flies! I mean if I asked for $20 a shirt, could I offer him 10% ($2.00) for every sale? Or should I try and rent a "corner" or a "rack" for the month to see how it goes? Also, I want a website to showcase the shirts and also to accept paypal. But I'm considering a myspace account instead for free. Do you think people will think it is "unprofessional" to have your business site on a myspace? Meaning the public may not take it seriously? I want to advertise the website on the shirts, so I think the name of the website should be something catchy and easy to remember. So the second question is pay for a professional website with a great name, or go the free route with myspace???? Thanx sssooo much!!!!!

I have a 10 speed (2x5) road bike, a French motobecane from the late 80s or the early 90s. I just got it and the first thing I did was replace the rear rim, tire, and tube. It is all greased up. When I am in the two highest gears the chain likes to skip/slip/jump, especially when I am pushing as hard as I can. If I try to pedal softly and evenly it will be fine, just when I press hard. What are some things that could be causing this? This has a freewheel and not a cassette.

i just purchased a set of Shimano LX dual control shifters with hyrdraulic disc brakes. the kit did not come with rotors, so i planned to use the new kit with my existing rotors (Deore, tektro IO). i was at a bike shop yesterday and we were talking about this and he called shimano directly and they said i needed heat treated rotors.

what does that mean? are my current rotors heat treated? what difference does it make to braking performance?
