My dad bikes pretty regularly and lives in the DC area which gets pretty chilly. Any suggestions on stores to check (preferably online)?

A balaclava is a one-size fits all head and face warmer (kinda like a ski mask but with only one bigger opening for eyes, nose, mouth) that is most welcome on cold days. You don't need a Polartec fleece balaclava, just a thinner one would do in the DC area. Usually less than $25 at bike shops or sporting goods stores. Or you can also get a skullcap if you want.

Another cheap gift is a roll of handlebar tape. The tricky part is that color and taste have to be taken into consideration. This is the easiest and cheapest way to give a bike some pizzazz.

Another cheap gift is a pair of water bottles. You have to determine if dad is a gadget type or wants to look like a racer.
Gadget type: Sigg water bottles (aluminum insulated and fancy looking)

if it is freezing like it is down here in canada u might want to get some bikeing gloves and some light but warm jacket. but personaly i believe the best gift would be a bashee morphine-a totaly wiked bike. or a kona freeride bike would be good also. cuz what a true biker needs the most is a good bike that suits him.

A good base layer is one of the best things to wear when cold. Although not advertised in cycling mags, I absolutely LOVE UnderArmor gear! A "HeatGear" t-shirt is light, comfortable, and only $25 from REI, Cabela's, and other places.

Anything that blocks wind is also a plus, and a new bag from Timbuk2 (medium size is pretty standard) is always welcome to a cyclist.

I wouldn't mind getting some of those padded biker shorts that keep your butt cheeks from getting sore on long rides!
