A little while ago I asked if I was too fat to ride a bike. I got ALOT of answers and plenty of encouragement, thank you all very much.

Now I really want to get one. My boyfriend mentioned Walmart to go bike shoping but I dont think they have that great of a selection. Any suggestions of what type of bike I should get, being that I have a butt bigger than the whole bike? I'm looking for a mountain bike.

I think the ideal setup for you would be a mountain bike, but you can go to Wal-Mart or a LBS (local bike shop), and get some slicks (tires). These are not so nobby, so you can go 1-2 mph faster, (so the BF doesn't get bored), and cost about 12 dollars each!
(slicks grip the road well, and often have tread)

Then, get a wider seat from Wal-Mart (or the LBS) if the one installed is not very comfortable.

As for the bike, I suggest you go used. You can get something four times as expensive (a better bike) for the same price).
Good places to fing a good bike are:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/about/cities.html (I got mine there)
If craigslist has a city near you, click on the link, then find the "bikes" link and click on that!

Another place is Ebay

Also, check your newspaper's classifieds!

Make sure the bike fits well. It is best to get fit to a certain frame size at a LBS, but you can also search for bicycle fitting guidelines on the web. ( I only suggest this because you probably are not going to ride too much) However, you do need the right sized bike, or it will be very uncomfortable. (for the back and the knees).

As for the actual bike, a good brand should be Trek or Specialized. Everything should work fine on a test ride, and have no rust (a very bad sign of maintenance) and the drivetrain (gears, chain, etc.) should look in good shape.
If you do get a bike, I suggest taking it to a bike shop for a tuneup, at least to oil the chain, etc. and to tighten everything up.

GOOD LUCK!

Dont go to Wamart, you are correct that it is lacking good choices. I know it is a bit more expensive but find a local bike shop and they can find a proper fitting bike for you and even set you up with an oversized seat. These people specialize in helping and they are very knowledgable so you will get started properly.Remember that if it isnt comfortable then it wont be enjoyable and you will give up too easily on something you would ultimately enjoy. Do it right and do it as often as you can, next year at this time you will be giving the same advice to someone else who needed to hear that it is okay and to go for it!!! Good Luck!!!

CM is completely correct.

If money is an issue, at the very least, go to a bike shop and learn about the different bikes, components, test ride a couple just to feel the differences, and most importantly, get sized up so you know what size bike is best for you.

then go to a place where you can buy a bike in your price range or find a used one online.

If you live in a big city, a lot of times you can get a second hand bike at a fraction of the cost of a new bike. Look into second hand bikes that may have older bikes with larger seats and are not expensive in case you decide that biking is not for you.

DO NOT go to Wal-Mart or any other store like that. Go to your local bike shop and they will be glad to help you out. Tell them what kind of riding you want to do and a price range that you are looking to spend. The employees at a bike shop will know exactly what will and will not work for you. Wal-mart just sells you a bike no matter what.

It became once a females bike because females wore outfits everywhere and the decreased bar helped save the gown down. I used a million to circumvent the severe leg raise with undesirable hips. the impressive call is a step through body.

According to you, you are overweight, so I suggest to buy a bike in Walmart or Target, the reason is that most of those wholesale places sell Steel frame bikes, while the fancy bike places sell Aluminum frame bikes.
Aluminum bikes do not last long under stress, and they also do not flex. I think you should ask for a Steel frame bike.
