not looking for a huffy or schwinn, a REAL mountain bike, but one that is considered to be both affordable and still good quality. I'll also utilize it on the street, often.

Not everyone lives in the tropics! It's cold outside! Even now if you really bundle up you can still ride but in a very short time there will be snow and ice and riding will be impossible. For those of us that ride to stay fit, what do you do in the winter?

I just bought a floor pump with a pressure gauge.

After I pump up the tire to its appropriate pressure, I want to use the guage the next day or after a ride to check the pressure. But when I do this, the guage shows a low reading and it takes two or three pumps to get it back to the right pressure.

Am I overfilling my tube if I do this?

I'm looking for something cheap to start with (upto £150 or $300 US) I'll be using it on paths and gravel, slight hills etc for 2-3 hour cycles a couple of times a week to keep myself in shape. (I'm 25 and already reasonably fit by the way) No real offroading or downhill or anything like that, just simple A-B along tracks. Should I get Full suspension or just the front? Any particular bikes you could reccommend? What about buying second hand? Any ideas or suggestions much appreciated! Thanks in advance

I checked my road bike this morning on my porch. The tube was flat and there was a nail stuck in the tire. I'm wondering, did I pick that up on my last ride and get home somehow? Or did somone maybe stick a nail in my tire while my bike was unguarded?

I ride my bike to and from work everyday and while I'm on it I feel fine and barely sweat. But as soon as I get off I feel extremely hot and find myself sweating up a storm. Why is this? Shouldn't I be sweating more *while* I'm exercising and not after?

What exactly does the term XC or cross-country biking mean?

What other types of biking/ riding are there? Please tell what these different types are and how each one is different. (I know only of road, mountain and downhill biking)

My season just ended with the last race 2 days ago, so I'm planning on upgrading my bike for next season, I would like to build my pwn bike from the ground up, any suggestions on the following components?:

- Frame (Orbea, Giant, Trek, Specialized, Cannondale)
- Deraileurs (Shimano or Sram)
- Front suspension (Fox, Mazzorchi, Rock Shox)
- Brakes (Hydralic discs, mechanical discs, V-Brake)

Any good advice would be appreciated, I plan to use on XC rides and a few technical downhills, also I have not yet established a budget, but since I'm planning on building it over the winter so I won't have to buy everything up front.

I have 9 speed running gear and have recently put a new 9 speed chain on, but every time I put any decent pressure on the pedals the chain slips over the teeth on the rear cogs. The teeth on the cogs are not worn and it never happened with the old chain. Any suggestions why its happening ?
