Two year old Gary Fisher tarpon, has over 6,000 miles on it, the third speed gear is no longer working, the 5-7 gears are having trouble holding the chain and the rear brake gets stuck. Is their faith in repairing this bicycle or has it lived a good life needs to be repaired? Any suggestions on a cheap ($300-500) bicycle that can take heavy usage, off/on road capabilities and can handle adverse weather conditions? I need something strong.

My bike is a 1995 TREK Navigator 100. The tires are original Bontrager "Comfort" 1.95X26, both front and rear. I have approximately 2,000 miles on the bike and the rear is nearing replacement while the front has significant tread remaining. I see no indication of rim damage, either bent (side/side) or out of round (circumfrential).

Any ideas as to where I can find some info on the tour de france, such as the history of it, any doping incidents there have been, the route and a french person who has completed it and is relatively famous? I need to know for my French Oral exams for AS....I'm doing the research myself, but any help and/or suggestions would be greatfully received!! Thanks :]

It has been at least 15 years since I sat on a bike, and I am very out of shape. I would like to ride on the street, but would also like to enjoy the great Mountain Biking trails that AZ has to over. I am not looking to spend more than $400.00. I am 5' 11". What kind of bike would you recommend? What size bike would you recommend. Is there anything else I should know? I am quite clueless.

The ones I've tried on are so huge and heavy---I get a headache from them and I feel like I look ridiculous. After many close calls with spacey drivers on cell phones or drugs, I have gotten to the point where I won't ride my bike until I get a helmet. So any name brands and model #'s that you could suggest would be greatly appreciated.

A few years ago, I wanted to buy a full suspension bike, but I saw many that were upwards of $1K.

Then I saw a KHS FXT Trail for $350 at the bike store. I noticed so far, the suspension could be better (I also own a 1998 K2 Proflex full suspension bike and the suspension on that bike is worlds above that one) but for $350 dollars, it's better than you'd expect.

The shifting could be better, but then again, it's a 350 dollar bike. I think it's probably the best buy you can get for a full suspension, but I want to get other people's opinions on the FXT Trail.

I am a serious age group athlete generally finishing in the top 20% of my group. Even after several years of competing I still feel seriously ignorant about bikes. I know I need a new one, but I don't know where to start with research etc. My top priorities are FIT (my current bike never fit properly and holds me back) and, ease of use (maintenance, tire changing). Yes, this is important to me. The amount of info out there is overwhelming so advice on where to start, what questions to ask, what to read, etc. is very welcome. I do Olympic and half Ironman distances but will work up to my first full IM in '07 or '08. So new, good bike is critical. Thanks.
