Its one of a family ranging up to F1000, all using the same frame - and its the frame that matters. The F series has been around awhile and that's because its near perfect. The frame is perfectly balanced, strong, but forgiving and adaptable to all sorts of hardtail set ups. Its hard to fault and nothing truly betters it, even today (maybe the Klein hardtail ...)

If you're more concerned with having a good bike than in having the latest fashion, go for the F. It will serve you well for years and you can upgrade the componentry whenever you have the cash and the inclination.

It's a nice hardtail. It was one of the lower specked hardtails in the cannondale lineup. I think it's going to be discontinued for 2007, and Cannondale will only offer a F-4 and F-5. I don't know the component specs on it, but Cannondale makes good bikes.

Approximate retail price $550-$600, should come down when the 2007s arrive.
shifters & rear derailleur SRAM X-7 (9 speed)
deore front derailleur
truvative isoflow crank
stem, brake set, and brake levers are Cannondale house brand
platform pedals w/ toe clips
super fatty ultra DL 80mm travel fork
The F4 is the 2007 replacement, pretty much spec'd the same except it now runs mechanical disc brakes (Avid BB5) instead of the v-brakes, uses SRAM SX5 trigger shifters instead of the SRAM X-7 trigger shifters.

Good entry level bike.

What kind of riding are you wanting to do?

Since this is a hardtail you may want to consider its purpose.
