45 mph, with a roaring tailwind.
it was scary and over way too quickly. the headwind was no fun, either.
Without wind? I've finished races in big pack sprint finishes, and after the race the top speed on my speed-o-meter was over 40, but of course there's drafting involved.
Solo, flat calm, level road, I used to be able to hit 35 in a sprint. Not so fast any more.

flat ground drafting behind a big truck 45mph for about 4 miles spun out.
dead flat no wind in a sprint finish 41.5, most sprints I hit 38 or so must have been a good day, it was a good lead out by a teammate.

38 mph, albeit with a tailwind! I'm not built like a sprinter, so my bursts of top speed aren't that fast.
Downhill, though, I've hit 53.3 mph and regularly top 50.

40mph and it was a blast. Spinning in top gear rocks.
