I am a bit surprised by reading the takes on here. I am normally very impressed with the people who hang out on this Boxing section here on answers. There are generally a lot of great scenarios and opinions. I understand that nobody wanted Floyd to win. Nobody wants to see such a cocky fighter win such a big fight.

Problem is here: If anybody thought that Oscar would actually be able to catch up to Floyds speed you haven't watched enough of his past fights. Floyd is lightning fast. He fights often while backing up and his defense is often making you miss all together not blocking the punches. Oscar is a great boxer no doubt, and you couldn't ask for a nicer guy. He just doesn't have what it takes to beat Floyd. If he could get Floyd into a slugging match toe to toe then he could beat him, but he will never be able to do that.

Floyd has fought close to 40 fights and he always makes you fight his fight. That is why he is undefeated.

In a re-match Floyd wins again. Too Fast!

Just wondering what kind of money the two boxers will make for this hugely hyped fight?

There are kickboxers that would knock him out. He ducks too much, its good for boxing, but if you duck in the UFC its time to eat a knee or foot. And a knee is way more brutal than any uppercut. Also Tyson would get taken down at will even my a small dude like Matt Hughes. Does any one believe Tyson could even beat 170 lb Matt Hughes?

Pretty Boring Floyd?

First of all, my apologies but after yesterday's atrocity, I just had to bring this up. YES, I am a self-confessed DLH fan, so this rant is not intended to be objective. But there is one thing that I consider beyond debate: that the only person who performed last night, the only person who made the match even remotely watchable is the same person who lost the fight.

Last night two of three judges thought they were judging an amateur bout. Now what's the difference between an amateur bout and a professional bout? The former is like touch football. You score when the white part of your glove touches the opponent's face or body. But a professional match is about, first and foremost, entertainment.

The only reason why professional bouts exist is because there are people willing to pay to see it. An amateur scoring system would be the death of professional boxing. It rewards the defensive boxer, the non-risk taker, the one people don't pay to see.

I'll give credit to De La Hoya fighting some great competition over the years. He has nothing to be ashamed of. However, the take on him has always been that he's basically a one-handed fighter. De La Hoya fans, do you think he was cheated, or was the fight called fairly?

I know that I am unhappy paying $65 for it! And why does it cost more in HD than in "regular" definition other than thats what the market will pay? I also thought Oscar won the fight. I should have been sleeping. It would have been more fun.

The list of choices would be: Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, Joan Guzman, Edwin Valero...
And which of these fighter will rake in the most pay-per-view buys?

even maywetahers dad admitted that oscar de la hoya won........mayweather does not deserve the championship. oscar clearly won the fight and mayweather could get a nice decent hit!

2007-05-05 18:20:08 · 19 answers · asked by Anonymous

I did. Mayweather won by split decision in a fight I thought he clearly won. Most of the rounds, he would hit De La Hoya with about 20 clean shots, and then weather the storm of a De La Hoya flurry where most punches wouldn't connect. For some inexpicable reason, De La Hoya abandoned his left jab in the later rounds which was giving Mayweather problems earlier. My three questions are, do you agree with me that: 1. the Judge who scored it 115-113 for De La Hoya is out of his mind. 2. it wasn't really a great fight, because neither fighter was really in trouble at any time, and there certainly never looked like there might be a KO. 3. Most if not all of the Mayweather pre-fight trash talk was to boost PPV sales, and had nothing to do with any personal animosity towards De La Hoya.
