This is my answer to this question. The heavyweight division has became a shell of what it once was when you could watch names like Ali, Holmes, Tyson and Lewis fight. By the time Lewis came around the heavyweight division was on its way or if it already begun to decline, he was just one of the select few of good noticable boxers still left in a now tarnished division. Lewis was in my opinion a great heavyweight one of only a few in history the who avenge losses to win back the heavyweight title, that is why he was and still is recongized as a Undisputed Champion. Terrible shame to a once great division it needs a revival.

Hi,

as a boxing fan I have to say I disagree with you about Lennox Lewis being boring. He never 'talked' a bad fight and he made fools of several heavyweight 'champs' who thought he was there for the taking. Many of his fights were exciting to watch.

But think about Riddick Bowe, a ponderous loser, who bumbled his way through most of his fights without any real aggression shown...any excitement in his fights was created by the opponents. His size and resilience helped him survive when others may have failed, but definitely boring to watch.

I agree with your other contributor about Ingemar Johannson, who shared the unfortunate manner of many Scandanavian sports stars of being, or appearing, totally emotionless when speaking (think of Formula 1's Kimi Raikennen, who never smiles when he speaks and, in another sport, the great tennis player, Bjorn Borg, who depite being very successful was awful to watch...thank God for John Macenroe's appearance to get rid of him from the tennis scene.)

No, Lennox Lewis provided many exciting knockouts during his career and does not deserve top be labelled 'the most boring'.

Lewis was boring, but I won't go as far as to say that he was most boring heavyweight champ in history. I'm sure there were a couple of "one-hit wonders" who surpasses Lewis.

NO, INGEMAR JOHNNASEN WAS. HE BEAT FLOYD PATTERSON (KO'D HIM), HELD THE TITLE FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN GOT KO'D BY FLOYD IN THE REMATCH IN THE 3RD ROUND. HE WAS HIT SO HARD HIS FOOT TWITCHED ON THE CANVAS. AT LEAST LEWIS' FIGHT WITH TYSON WAS A GOOD ONE...
