I think they should have a rematch........so there would be no controversy and settle it.

Forget reading the other posts this post is going to end all talk.

I will be honest. Before the fight I predicted Oscar to win a split decision. I even went on to say there would NOT be a knockdown UNLESS someone made a HUGE mistake.

The truth is that Oscar De La Hoya showed heart. He showed desire to win and had to chase Mayweather around the ring. Without a doubt in my mind Oscar De La Hoya should have one. He showed the aggression, the passion, and the drive. Without his determination lets face it, there would be a bunch of threads complaining about how everyone got ripped off for $54.95.

Mayweather DID use his speed...to get out of the way. When De La Hoya brought the fight to him and trapped him in the corner or against the ropes Floyd would immediately grasp onto De La Hoya's arm for dear life because he KNEW he couldnt trade shots over and over again at close distance with someone who outweighted him 4lbs and was the bigger man.

Floyd DID land more clean, effective punches overall.

Do I think their should be a rematch?
yes and no.

yes because I believe Oscar De La Hoya was screwed over and should have had the split decision in his favor and a rematch would give him the chance to prove that.

no because oscar de la hoya is 34 years old and would end up being 35 before the rematch and he would lose even more stamina. Oscar is beyond his prime but he still proved (at least in the eyes of the majority of boxing fans) that he can beat Floyd Mayweather and i believe it was a bad day of scoring for the judges.

If anything it should have been a Draw if not a decision for De La Hoya.

De La Hoya wanted it so much more. Floyd danced around and ran away.

Floyd would simply throw a jab and back away...throw a jab...back away. De la hoya would stand up to him toe to toe and be willing to take shots as well as give them in a flurry.

The last score should have still been 115-113 but in De La Hoya's favor. Plain and simple.

My final opinion and view of the fight is simply this:
Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are two great fighters. Each of them have proven they have what it takes. I don't believe there should be a rematch due to the fact that Oscar De La Hoya is aging and is going to end up getting hurt the older he gets. When you age you lose some of your strength, stamina, and speed. If he continues to fight (any respectable fighters at least) he's only flirting with danger.

However in my mind Oscar De La Hoya was robbed of a victory. He took it right to mayweather from the opening bell and showed no signs of fear. I applaud him for his courage.

Thank you.

De la hoya was robbed again. This was a close fight but if your going take the belt from the champion then you need to fight and take it away from him instead of running away for twelve rounds. Second, he held so much i thought he just wanted to feel up on Oscar. The professional analysts forgot to point out that that's why De la hoya couldn't connect on mayweather. This wasn't a case of mayweather boxing with ease, it was a case of I'm too afraid to let you hit me so i will grab you. There should have been points taken away. Last but not least, if De la hoya was criticized about running for the last three rounds against Trinidad that lost him the fight (which i still believe was not enough for Tito to win) then how can mayweather run for twelve and win without even being criticized for it. Also Mayweather Sr admitted that his son lost the fight. Oh yeah, two of the three judges gave the last round to oscar, if the other one would have scored it for oscar it would have been a draw. How the hell can you give Floyd the last round (OMG).

It was not an unfair decision. De La Hoya was more aggressive and pressed Mayweather through most of the rounds, but Mayweather was faster, more slippery and landed more punches. De La Hoya would have won had he landed more in the later rounds. The 115-113 score of judge Chuck Giambra sounds about right.

I would say it was a very close call and thats why no-one can really moan at the decision, one thing i would say though is that i have had enough of Floyd now and i dont think i will bother watching any more of his fights, people pay to see a fight and time and time again he doesnt provide one, Oscar was right in what he said at the end, he should of got lots of credit for chasing the fight and trying to make something happen because if he never it would of been no kind of contest whatsoever.
Answerer above me, Mayweather Sr could of been in the back row of the MGM he would still know more about boxing than the corrupt judges that turn up at ringside to every Vegas fight, i would say Floyd Sr has credible points and should be listened too, i would like to see the judges explain how they see the fights after they have finished because im sure most of them are asleep during the fight also we can then see just how much corruption there is, im sure most of the judges fill out their scorecards before the fight starts.

Yeah,he was robbed....come on you can't honestly believe Mayweather fairly won it...ahahaha even his own father thinks De La Hoya won (a little sad really)

"I thought Oscar won the fight on points, threw more punches and was more aggressive," said Floyd Mayweather Sr., who used to train De La Hoya. "My son had good defense and caught a lot of his punches, but I still thought Oscar pressed enough to win the fight."

But this is boxing (rigged)...my guess would be there will be another rematch fight soon and another couple of million to be made...

I had the fight even going into the ninth round, a 4-4 split over eight. Oscar stopped jabbing for the last four rounds and it cost him the fight. I though the scores were fair, and in truth Oscar did better than most boxing experts thought he would. Mayweather's pre fight hype never materialized, and neither fighter dominated the other. If Floyd is boxing's pound for pound best, Oscar is certainly right there near the top as well.

Oscar pressed and carried the fight to Floyd, but Floyd's defensive skill and speed was the difference. It was a fair decision, nobody got robbed, and in truth Oscar did much better than expected. It was very close, and Mayweather did just enough to win.

Oscar De l. a. Hoya did the final public of the unquestionably "scuffling with"...Mayweather only used his speed to attempt and get out of how. different than while De l. a. Hoya could get him against the ropes or interior the corner...then the 1st element he could do (after feeling a no longer elementary de l. a. hoya punch) is grap onto his arm for expensive lifestyles and wait until the ref could separate him. the only element that saved the followers entertained grew to become into de l. a. hoya who did the unquestionably boxing. He didnt run scared...mayweather did. Mayweather talked plenty trash earlier the combat proclaiming that he grew to become into going to "beat oscar down" and informed the group of 24/7 that he stole de l. a. hoya's well being center bag and informed him "concentration on it then" and de l. a. hoya did only that he got here in there and gave one hell of an attempt and for my section ought to have one by a chop up decision. undemanding and straightforward. mayweather acted so annoying earlier the combat yet as quickly as he took some sturdy photographs he ran away lots of the combat. there shouldnt be a rematch whether via fact of oscar's age. i spotted that he began to lose his stamina after on the subject of the seventh around. whether mayweather gained and thats that (so says the judges) yet i think Oscar De l. a. Hoya gained the combat and if my scorecard counted it could be one hundred fifteen-113 de l. a. hoya.

Floyd landed 207 of 481 punches to 122 of 587 for De La Hoya. Mayweather also landed more power punches than De La Hoya, outscoring him 138-82.

Robbed?

De la Hoya got robbed! In my opinion, Mayweather alwas hit De la Hoya in the arm and Mayweather kept on grabbing on to him, that's probably why he landed more punches.
