Pretty Boring Floyd?

First of all, my apologies but after yesterday's atrocity, I just had to bring this up. YES, I am a self-confessed DLH fan, so this rant is not intended to be objective. But there is one thing that I consider beyond debate: that the only person who performed last night, the only person who made the match even remotely watchable is the same person who lost the fight.

Last night two of three judges thought they were judging an amateur bout. Now what's the difference between an amateur bout and a professional bout? The former is like touch football. You score when the white part of your glove touches the opponent's face or body. But a professional match is about, first and foremost, entertainment.

The only reason why professional bouts exist is because there are people willing to pay to see it. An amateur scoring system would be the death of professional boxing. It rewards the defensive boxer, the non-risk taker, the one people don't pay to see.

So don't you think its about time that the mentality of judges in pro boxing match change? Otherwise, I see no reason why people can't just watch amateur bouts.

Well, I agree Mayweather should've fought more convincingly to earn the pound for pound title and erase all doubts about him, a split decision leaves the issue hanging in the air (a planned possiblility of a Part 2 perhaps? It would make good financial sense). But regarding the professional fight part, I do believe it has more to do with being paid to fight and considering Floyd got paid 10 million to take Oscar's title away, while Oscar went home with 25 million plus promo earnings at the end of the day, I wonder who got robbed and what professional really meant in this context?

Pretty Boy Floyd

I was not fortunate enough to be able to watch the fight, but I do agree with you that people do not pay to watch a defensive fight. Professional Boxing is being overshadowed by more violent, action packed sports like UFC. Although I understand your argument in the scoring system, I don't think society is willing to step back to a less violent, less action sport like boxing. Think about the fighters that drew big crowds -
Mike Tyson - People wanted to see how fast he could knock somebody out cold.
Butterbean - People wanted to watch him take a beating and then knock somebody out with one punch.
Forman - This guy's style begged for him to get A LOT, and crowds loved it. Then to make it better, he had knockout power.
(There are plenty more, but you get the idea)

To be honest, I think Prince Naseem Hamed had the right idea in the late 90's. He had flashy entrances. He talked smack continuously. He was willing to take BIG risks to get big gains. When he swung from downtown there was no doubt was his intention was. Although I'm not a Nas fan, I think this style would be boxing's only saving grace. Make it exciting, Make it wild, or people will tune out to go watch people FIGHT in the UFC.

Yes, it is definitely time for the judges to score the fights rewarding those that FIGHT. People do not want to see people play "tap tap hide".

Floyd clearly won , stop whining. It was close after 7-8 rounds, from then on Floyd started handling and even outclassing DLH.

You don't remember a boxer by the name of Salvadore Sanchez. He would have made Pretty Boy walk out of the ring sideways with his sombrero hanging from that big mouth.
