Because it is well known, and widely accepted, that the "players" who recently passed Roger Maris' record of 61 HRs did it by cheating. I personally feel that, although the official record is currently with Barri Bonds (sorry for the spelling, but he's always looked to me like a man who prefers other men - perhaps why he felt the need to artificially bulk up), but the True Home Run Record still belongs to Roger Maris. Don't give me any garbage about needing the hand/eye coordination to even hit the ball in the first place, and that steroids don't help a player do that - steroids help turn all those warning track flyouts into HRs, so steroids do add an unnatural and unfair advantage to those players who feel the need to cheat.

mlb.com shows his number as 24 but I thought this was retired for Willie Mays along with #37 for Casey Stengel, #41 for Tom
Seaver & #42* Jackie Robinson. I'm not sure if #8 is officially
retired for Gary Carter but I thought #14 was retired for Gil Hodges until I think I saw Julio Franco wearing it earlier this year.

Yes, I understand that the top teams are only a few games over .500 this season, but they've provided some of the best excitement in all of MLB.

The last three NL representatives in the World Series have come from the NL Central, and the last two have had less than 90 wins in the regular season.

The NL Central has the best action for the playoff race right now. Every other team leading for a playoff spot has at least a 2.5 game lead.

If you look on the board, most of the talk right now about the playoff race is about the NL Central. Without this close race, the finish of the regular season would be a bit quieter.

It will be a good race to the finish. The Cubs have 6 home games and 10 road games remaining, and this weekend's series against the Cardinals could determine if the Cardinals will still be in the playoff race. The Brewers have 10 home games and 7 road games remaining, and the true test for them will be those 7 remaining road games.

The 2008 schedule is still being drafted and not yet released, so this information could (but likely will not) change, but this little bit was disclosed today -- the last regular season games at Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium.

"Yankee Stadium is set to host its final regular-season game on Sept. 21, 2008, with New York playing Baltimore.

Shea Stadium will hold its regular-season wrapup a week later, on Sept. 28 against Florida."

Those are both Sundays.

Make plans now! If both Noo Yawk teams blow off the 2008 postseason, these will be the last games in the olde yards.

I expect the fireworks will be immense.

My wife and I just got back from Seattle and I've got to say, Safeco is an amazing ballpark. Really friendly environment, cool amenities. I'm an Angel fan and I really like Angel's Stadium a lot, but man Safeco is great. We're going to try to do Petco by the end of the year, I hear a lot of great things.

What's your favorite? Why?

his 21 seasons from 1976-1996. Dawson played for the Expos, Cubs, Red Sox and Marlins and posted career numbers of: 2,774 hits, 503 Doubles, 98 Triples, 438 HR's, 1,591 RBI's, and .279 BA. He was the NL MVP in 1987 and was a 8 time gold glove winner and 8 time all-star, and NL Rookie of the Year in 1977. Ex-team-mate and HOF'er Ryne Sandberg said during his induction speech in 2005 that, "No player in baseball history worked harder, suffered more or did it better than Andre Dawson," Sandberg said of the rifle-armed outfielder known as "The Hawk." Sandberg continued, "He's the best I've ever seen. I watched him win an MVP for a last-place team in 1987 [with the Cubs], and it was the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen in baseball." Sandberg concluded with, "He did it the right way, the natural way, and he did it in the field and on the bases and in every way, and I hope he will stand up here someday." In 2007, The Hawk got 56.7% of the votes, falling short of the 75%. 2008 looks

Like Shawn Green vs. John Smoltz. Just this year Shawn Green is 11 for 19 against the HOF pitcher. That is crazy! And in his career I am pretty sure he is like 27 for 55. He just kills him. Do you have anymore like that?

I just want to hear everyone's idea, A.L. is Alex Rodriguez or Magglio Ordonez , A- rod has the home runs over ordonez, but ordonez has the batting title right now, and is only 8 behind in the RBI category. I think it will come down to what team makes the playoffs, with cleveland does win the central and red sox wins the A.L. East. Then you have N.L. and i think Prince Fielder has won that. Then in the Cy young it will come down to Beckett, Lackey, Wang, Sabitha, or Verlander. Then N.L. has to be either Webb or Peavy. The Ryan Braun wins R.O.Y in the NL, but who wins it the A.L.
