You have a good point....always seems that way for most everyone on their last year.....how about Posada...when has he ever hit over 300 like this year?..Andruw Jones of the Braves might be an exception but he has started to get hot......always wondered what Mantle, Mays, Williams,Aaron, Koufax....just to name a few would have demanded at present dollars....but the question that got thrown back to me....YeaH....but with that kind of money would have they had the numbers that they put up.....back then $100,000 was huge but they really had to work their hineys to get it...and got less when they put up less numbers......A-Rod is really special inspite of what some of New Yorkers think of him....truly hope that he stays with us next year but it will cost someone a pretty penny to get him....$30million no doubt!! GO YANKEES! STINKIN RED SOX!!

i dont think he has an off and on button! I think hes having an amazing year and it comes at a good time for him! Look a what JD Drew did he had a great year and now he makes 14 mil and well is having a pathetic year but is coming around now!!
Also as for the Red Sox who claim they will not be talking to A-Rod its all just a destraction from it because any team with a high enough payroll is going to be after him! Seriously who doesnt try for the best player in MLB for next year!!!

It might be a factor, but impossible to say. He's had great seasons in the past, he even won an MVP two years ago with the Yankees. I'm not sure if he's even going to hit his career highs in any categories. I don't put much credence in the "contract year" theory. He's one of the most consistent hitters in baseball history.

If a person could will himself to have a season like A-Rods any time he wanted, he would do it every year. It would bring huge contracts and huge records. Can you imagine the HR record if players like McGwire, Bonds etc. could just will themselves into 80-100 HR seasons?
No. A-Rod's season is just a lucky for him meeting of contract and an unbelievably good season at bat.

That's hard to say. Can he turn it on like that just because he's in the Opt-out year? I say no. Its just him getting more comfortable with his role with the Yankees. He's having a season for the ages and he's not done yet. I see him staying with the Bombers.

Or, maybe he's playing extra good this year so that the Yankees don't throw him away after his past 3 horrendous seasons.

He sure DOES seem to be trying a lot harder than last year for example.

That is quite the possibility that could be the case.
