I don't watch much baseball, but I noticed tonight (June 7), the White Sox were playing the Yankees at home. Down 3-4 in the top of the ninth, three obscure relief pitchers let 4 runs in (at least--I couldn't stand to follow the rest of the inning) and the game got out of hand. The Chisox have an effective closer who hasn't pitched since June 4. Is it standard practice that you never use your closer if you're behind? Or was Jenks unavailable because of injury? Or was the Sox manager so intimidated by Mo Rivera that he gave up all hope of winning or tying in the bottom of the ninth inning?

Absolutly Love my Phillies! How do you feel about the Mets blowing 3 straight games? Can the Phills top it off this year, make the playoffs and actually not have to hang on to a Wild Card? Let's hear the input.

[ I know they can do it, love you utley and rowand <3 ]

It seems to be getting harder and harder for starting pitchers to go the distance. If you look at the progression in just the last 30 years, there's been a steady decline in complete games and innings pitched by starting pitchers. What's the reason for this?

Story out in the news today quotes Aaron as dissing Barry Bonds. We all know Bonds has cheated but doesn't this make Hank seem like a bitter old fool with no class?

I'm pretty sure this occurred when Shilling was a Diamondback and he was going against the Padres. Eighth or ninth inning? Ben somebody?

It was pretty cheap. Even his own teammates thought is was bush league.

If it is so, I would love for it to happen. Chacin is an excellent lefty who is capable of eatting up innings. If we could get Chacin to the Yankee club, it would be the best starting rotation in baseball with clemens and Andy Pettitte being the top 2.

right now and for all of my life i have been batting right handed.

my dad says that batting both right and left will help me later on in life (high school ,college) He says it gives the batter an advantage.
for example: if its a left handed pitcher a right handed batter, the right handed batter can see the ball better then a left handed . or viseversa. Is that true? or is that just baseball?
i know it will take a lot of practice to get good at batting lefty, so is it worth it or just a waste of time and i should just get better at righty?

sorry if its confusing and long

I'm a AL fan so I dont see too many NL games but why are most pitchers poor batters? Even pitchers who've spent alot of time in the NL. All of them grow up batting so what happens when they get to the big leagues. Is it simply cause they dont play as many games (altho alot of utility players probably play the same about and still bat well) or something else?

I believe this event took place sometime in the 1970s. An American player joined a team in Japan and when he returned he brought the idea of the cupped end of the baseball bat back to the states. I don't know the players name though. Who is it?

I don't understand why it seems like MLB, NHL, or MLS drafts don't even exist and are given little or no attention most of the time. Anyone know why?
