OMG they are moving to fremont! no way
that sounds weird "fremont athletics"
why would they come up with a new name and why would they move?

It's tough to say. I guess it depends if the owner is willing or considering changing the team name. And is the city of Fremont going to request the city name be included as part of some stadium deal, like what Anaheim did with the Angels.
Personally, I think if they do move to Fremont they'll keep the Oakland Athletics name. If Anaheim wants to say their in Los Angeles now, he'll the Oakland A's can keep calling themselves the Oakland A's no matter where their located in the bay area.

According to Dave McCarthy and Joe Castiglione on WRKO (Boston), the City of Fremont is requiring use of its name in the Athletics' name, so Oakland Athletics of Fremont is not out of the question. Stupid and wordy, but not out of the question. If they get county money, Fremont/Alameida Athletics could happen too. Really, what does "Oakland" add to the equation? The Angels are contractually bound to use the name Anaheim or else they would be the Los Angeles Angels.

I hope and think they will stay the Oakland A's. If they change their city name it will be something like the San Jose A's or San Jose A's of Fremont it just doesn't sound right, but that wont keep it from changing.

If it happens, they'll probably be called the same thing they were when they were in Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Oakland - the A's.
Why change if they never have before?
